You could get a V6 for that much - with a locker. I personally don't like dark colors as scratches show up too easily. Also, that 4-banger has a tow package on it - which could mean more wear overall.
Tires will run you $800. That being said, you could score a really nice V6 with locker and good tires for $8500.
Personally, I would keep looking.

Well I'll jump on the opposite side here, I had an 00 2.7 5 speed and when I wrecked it I replaced it w/ an 02 3.4 auto. Both trucks are 4wd and both had the 16" rims w/ 265/70 tire package. After owning the 02 for about a year I can honestly say I wish I could have found another 2.7 5 speed in good enough shape, I liked it much better. The difference in pick up as was said is very slight, I would say my 00 would keep up with the 02 in every aspect, loaded or not. The V6 often downshifts on the highway where the 4 could pull in 5th if I floored it. MPG is not even close, the 4 wasn't great, 20 average mostly in town driving, but the 3.4 is a gas hog, I feel lucky when I see 16. As for the timing chain it does not have a change schedule like the belt in the V6, 90k is nothing on a chain, it should go another 90 easily. I would check the gear ratio using the code in the door jam before adding big tires, if it came w/ the 225/75/15 package it may have a high ratio and big tires will kill it. My gear code was A05A which worked out to a 4.56 ratio, the lowest offered on 3rd gens, this kept the rpm's up, keeping it close to its power band, thus the reason it could pull hills in 5th, 70mph was around 3k rpm. I am not against the V6, I am happy w/ the 02, I just think many people write the 2.7 off as being wimpy, but geared right its a very stout little motor.

I couldn't get that link to work, but finally tracked it down doing a 200 mile range search from a knoxville zip code i found. I think I may be under estimating the value of mine now, you really do have a pretty limited selection. Tons of 2wd and 4wd v6 auto's. Most have much higher miles too. If 4wd and 5spd are a must for you, I really didn't see any better deals on autotrader for you. After searching autotrader 7,700 sounds better than I originally thought. Maybe the resale on 3rd gens is recovering a bit, summer gas prices seemed to do a number on them the last couple years.
Pat, thanks for chiming in, good to know I'm not the only one who thinks the 2.7 is enough motor for our rigs.
