A friend of mine has a 95 4runner had her speedo died on her yesterday. Any idea where to start diagnosing the problem?

btw, I haven't checked the 4runner so I have no clue what I'm getting involved in

It could be a speed sensor which should be behind the dash or there might be a speed sensor in the side of the tranny. That is what I would look into first.

Could also be your speedo, mine went out and the trouble code showed a bad sensor, had it replaced still did not work, ended up being the speedometer.

When the speed sensor went out on my 90, I had an intermittent check engine light & the truck would sputter for a few minutes till it went off.
When my speedo cable went, I didn't get any check engine light. Just no speedometer reading.
