Supercharger=power from idle, simpler application, more reliable and much more affordable. Simply draw a intake plenum on Pro/E or similar 3D CAD, get it right and search for an off the shelf blower. Cobble up the small stuff and you are in business.

My $0.02
Can I ask why you suggest building my own plenum and going after market vs. going the TRD SC route? Hearing all of those side effects just turned me off to the turbo idea. Thank you for putting my mind at peace

Eh,
I wouldn't totally rule it out... BUT, it definitely is a go hard or go home sort of deal when it comes to turbos. Wether it be a full blown kit or custom. Turbos are far superior, but its going to cost you. As for them only making power over 3k? Maybe if your making a power monster, but with a properly sized turbo it would spool much faster. We aren't dealing with a sub 2L engine here. If all you want is 10lb of boost then a K04 would be plenty and seeing as a 1.8L can spool with hardly any lag at all I don't see why a motor 3/4 bigger couldn't do it... The problem is that if people are going to spend the money to add a turbo they want a big one, with big power, which means more lag... The real problem is that we are spoiled by a cheap bolt on option (The TRD S/C). In most applications there isn't an option less than $5k to get a proper kit.

I would rather stick to a "factory" type upgrade if possible so the TRD SC really makes the most since for me. Thanks gents!

Here is what it USED to look like. Right now it is on an engine stand in my garage torn all the way down and getting rebuilt (broke a rod).
