4wd will not disengage '00 4runner limited

I wheeled all day Saturday and all day Sunday with no problems whatsoever. The last few obstacles i completed in 2wd only. We pulled onto the public paved road and headed to a friends house nearby. We were there for appox 30min max. When i got back into the truck to leave, as i was pulling away and turning left i noticed the front tires "grabbing" at the pavement and the 4wd indicator in the gauge cluster was blinking.

The transfer case shifter was in the normal 2hi position and i NEVER use the push button 4wd. I usually stick to 4lo only and always use the transfer case lever.

I tried reversing, moving forward, both while pushing the button. Shifting into 4lo and 4hi...nothing. The light just blinks at me forever while the truck remains in 4wd. I'm assuming it's stuck in 4hi for some reason because it allowed me to drive home and it shifted gears normally. Cruising at 50mph @ 1700rpm's.

I read on here that i could maybe swap the vacuum lines to the ADD and it might disengage? I'm not sure though. Where is the control box located? Any help would be appreciated...i don't really want to take it to the dealer but I will if i have to.

Thanks.

Jody

EDIT: I forgot to mention there was TONS of mud and water crossings on this trip. I had mud/water going well over the TJM and sometimes halfway over the headlights. Maybe that has something to do with it?

UPDATE: 9-11-06

I started the truck up this morning to go to work and now it's fine. It's in 2wd and there is no blinking 4wd light anymore. I haven't done a function test to see if 4wd is working yet though.

What the hell could this be? Did it actually disengage while i was sleeping last night?? This is confusing. I may take it to Toyota to have it checked out because I don't know if I trust it to work properly on my next outing.

Any ideas?

maybe it was all that mud that was tricking something.

Maybe your truck is haunted...you better give it to me so nothing else happens!
