3rd Gen keyless entry question
My friend has a '98 4WD SR5 that he purchased new. From day one, he assumed that the truck did not have keyless entry / remote entry, as it only came with keys. The truck with dealer exchanged from out of state, so I think he accepted the truck as it was back then.
Today he was digging through his owner's manual packet and came across a separate booklet for the keyless entry system. Is there a chance that his truck came equipped with keyless entry, yet the dealer forgot to supply the fobs?
If so, where is the module located within the truck? He is somewhat excited about the prospect of having keyless entry after 7+ years of using the key....

dunno module location, but i bought a replacement off ebay for my 02, $9-shipped vs. $165 aftermarket. assuming it is there, just follow the instructions to reprogram it with his truck. i have also heard that it is sometimes necessary to have this done at the stealer for ~$35.

i think there would be a black box under the driver seat if it was factory.

andreas,
if i were to guess, it would be under the driver's side under the plastic panel.
and unless its a gulf states toyota, i am pretty confident that 4runners did not come with keyless entry unless it was the rs3000 alarm system itself. can you find out what kind of KE manual he has? GST toyotas are weirdly equipped

about the key
I might be wrong about this because its been a while. but follow these steps.
-Open drivers door
-Key in ingnition & remove(don't turn)
-Close door, open door
-Unlock and lock doors 5 times
-Close and open door
-Unlock and lock doors 5 times
-Close door
-Insert key turn on and off 2 times
-Remove key
If it honks you got a remote, go down to your stealership dish out the dough.
