Absolutely love my limited 4runner. Chicks dig it.

Would'a been nice to have a minor lift with a slight larger tires. Only if you're willing to lose a little gas millage.

Thank you guys. It looks as though a 4runner is the best option for me. With a 5-Speed and V6. The e-locker would be nice but its not necessary and it is extremely difficult to find with a 5-speed.

So I have a quick question for you guys. I have found a 4Runner that I know is very over priced but it has all of the features I am looking for. The only problem is it has 200,000 miles on it. Here is the link:
http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/3511944471.html

It is difficult to find 4Runner's in my area with the 5-speed and E-Locker. What do you think is a fair price for a 4Runner in this condition? I spoke with the owner and he has run synthetic through it since the day he bought it brand new. What are your thoughts on how long it is likely to last?
Thanks

That's what I thought too. What would be a fair price? I know it has some extras such as the front locker, lift, tires and wheels, re-gearing, etc. I was thinking somewhere in the ball park of $6500-$7000, just because it is in good condition cosmetically wise. I am going to go test drive it this weekend but I have no problem walking away from a vehicle.
Also, fillsrunner4, you got your 4runner through an acquaintance: I don't know this person personally. It does help to know the person before hand, that's how I have gotten fantastic deals on my dirt bikes.

Like others said,,,,,4runner. you can sleep in the back of it too. not much diff b/t mpg's, especially if you put bigger tires, racks, etc. extra power is nice. e locker is nice. nothing wrong with an automatic, its not a sports car and if one of the girls you're hanging out with can't drive a stick she can still drive your drunk ass home.

I don't know what's worse, driving drunk or letting a female drive your rig, both sound full of consequences. . .

I didnt know the guy When I went and test drove the rig the guy ended up being a friend of my old boss. He was asking $6300 I think at first with no hits for a few months (as I saw the rig on the side of the road for awhile before I became interested). I took a KKB copy regarding the rig and what it had and said Ill give ya 4 Trucks in amazing shape for how used it is. I love it. Talk the guy down cause hes insane on 10K

When I was in college I had an 84 extended cab. It was nice not having to haul all my friends around without getting gas money. That said a college kid generally only has to haul stuff twice a year and it's generally not dirty greasy junk or construction materials. So a 4Runner with the seats folded down will give you almost as much cargo room as a pickup. I've owned both extended cab tacomas and my wife drove a 00 4Runner from 02 until last spring. The 4Runner was an auto (couldn't find a 5 speed) but we just sold it last spring with 220k on it still going strong. And yes it did make a milkshake. It only got driven about 10 miles after it was discovered and flushing 5 gallons of ATF through it, replacing the filter, and flushing out the cooling system thoroughly gave it a clean bill of health afterwards. It's still going strong 10k miles later with the new owner. The automatic wasn't my first choice but it wasn't terrible either. In fact my current 96 Tacoma is a 3.4/auto also and it's not bad even with 255k on it. But I would prefer a 5 speed and if the auto ever has any issues I plan on swapping it out. Considering the frame issues Tacomas have and the fact they cost more I would go for a 4Runner. About the only job I ever did on it that sucked royally was rear wheel bearings. By far it was the best vehicle either my wife or I ever had and I've had probably 15 toyotas over the last 25 years.

I second the idea of test driving a 2.7 4Runner. I drove one when we were shopping back in 02 and it was really, really gutless. The mileage difference is minimal, and the 3.4 has a much better reputation for reliability too. I've heard of lots of balance shaft issues with 2.7's as they get up there in miles. I had an 05 extended cab with a 2.7 for 5 years and liked it but the later motor has a good boost in power over the 1st generation trucks.
