3.0 couple of tune up questions w/ pics
I decided to replace my own spark plugs this time and I'm pissed that the wires, in all their service, were never even removed for a cleaning by the dealer... I doubt they even checked the resistance!
I measured the resistance of my wires (which i cleaned and they look okay), and this is what I found:
1 - 10 ohms
2 - 3 ohms
3 - 12 ohms
4 - 3.6 ohms
5 - 16 ohms
6 - 3.6 ohms
coil - 3 ohms
Are these numbers okay for continued use?
Anyways, I think the cap & rotor need to go.. but what do you guys think?
Distributor Cap

Rotor Tip
-----
Also, should i replace my valve cover gasket?
-----
And is this oily stuff at the cold start injector a sign of a problem?
----
any input is welcome; thanks!

The cap and rotr have to go for sure. I wouldn't wory about the valve cover since it looks like a minor leak and it is really hard to do any better than that. Wouldn't hurt to thow in a new set of NGK spark plugs just for fun while your under the hood. As for the other stuff, not sure.

plugs are the main reason I took everything apart anyways... I just have to go pick some up tomorrow.... too bad I can't drive there! :pat:

I did the exact same thing last weekend(spooky)
The spark plug wire resistance should be less than 25000 OHMs According to my Haynes manual.Mine ranged from about 6000 to 13000,Are you sure your measurements arent Kilo ohms (Kohms). You will probably find that the longer ones have a higher resistance.Your rotor looks about the same as mine does,Im planning on replacing it soon but there not that cheap(about $70NZ).My cap was similar but not quite as worn.Mine had no carbon tracking(the white stuff).
I also did a ignition coil resistance test Which came out at 1.2 ohms (manual says it should be between 0.4-0.5 ohms)but these are very low measurements to test with al-cheapo multi meters.
Cant help with the other stuff but am interested to see what others say.

Must be that time of the year - I just did a full tune up on my 1995 3.0 and replaced the original factory plugs, wires, cap and rotor, oil and filter + Auto-RX, fuel filter, steering stabilizer, rear axle drain/fill and last but not least a full tranny flush... Fun Weekend for me!
I'd go ahead and replace all the stuff you are asking about - its not that expensive and if you are doing the plugs anyways it only takes an extra few minutes to do the cap, rotor and wires. I got NGK silicone wires from Taylor Automotive for 28 bucks - which was 20.00 cheaper than any place locally for Bosch wires. The NGK are great wires and I am very pleased with them. They are even a cool electric blue color which matches the blue top Optima I have under the hood really nicely.
I wouldnt do the valve cover gasket though - get a can of engine de-greaser and clean that area really well. Then just watch it over the course of a few days and weeks - you may find its not leaking at all or hardly at all....that oil could be from years of minor spills and such.
