2003 4Runner Stereo Questions

Hello all,
I just purchased a 2003 4Runner SR5 with the standard stereo (CD and cassette player). I'm interested in changing out the head unit, adding a CD changer and replacing the speakers. Can anyone provide info regarding head unit installation, location for an after market CD changer, and the size of speakers in front door and rear doors? Thanks!!

Try a search, as this topic has come up quite recently. I think ImpulseBrklyn was the one who already changed speakers in his '03.

yes, he did a good looking install. You probably have the stock 6x9s in the door with a tweet just south of the A pillar, but still on the door. You will likely need to build a baffle if you want to use a 6.5" component set or coaxial. You may also have to make a dash trim piece, becuase I dont know if Metra makes a kit for the 2003 4Runner yet....

The ford tarus threw them for a loop a while back with that idiodic oval shaped dash trim piece....another reason NEVER to buy a Fix Or Repair Daily or Found On Road Dead. GM is even worse about that, if you do aftermarket audio stuff, they will try to void the warrenty - which legally they cannot, but they will try.

if ya need other info i'm sure ImpulseBrklyn will be able to assist you better in the audio department.

if ya need help on the offroading stuff, hit me up as i'm probably the only 03 4runner that's doing it right now..

well i just finished up stock size speakers are 6x9 in the front with a 1 inch tweeter. The rear is a 6 3/4 speaker. there is more then enough room to run speaker wire throguh the front gormet. In the rear gromet your gonna have a hard time getting anything more then 14 guage through 12 guage would be possible but will take extra time and fustration. Im just doing some last mounting and alterations to my install ill have some new pictures up soon.

Here are some pictures for the front installation i couldnt take pictures when i did th rear but they were very easy if you have any questions i can gladly answer them.

pdf on how to take door panels off

this pdf shows where the stock cd changer would be I think its a good place to install one if you can find one to fit. If not the glove box would work, or the armrest in the center consol has more then enough room.

some pictures of the head unit installed, i made the kit myself from a piece of 3/4 mdf and used the stock radio brackets with some modification
