2001 Toyota Tacoma Double cab
Im in the market for purchasing a 2001 toyota tacoma DOUBLE CAB.
Im having a very difficult time locating one for 8000.
IS this even possible? or am I just getting my hopes up for nothing.
Im located in Houston Tx.
Can anyone tell me their experiences with this exact model truck?
Hows the ride? is it pretty bumpy like the 4runner?
Pretty reliable?
any issues or recalls that I should know about?
Is it pretty fast? lots of torque?
I need something with decent speed.

I love mine. Trying to find one for $8k is going to be very tough. Personally don't think you will be able to, unless it's in a pretty bad shape. Tacomas tend to hold their value better than 4Runners and you can't hardly find 01 4Runners for $8k. For a solid 01 DC, you're looking at $12k or more. There are prerunners that might be cheaper, but I don't think you can even get those for $8k.
Speed and power wise, they're the same as any other 3.4l 4Runner. Ride is pretty much the same.

Here are some local examples:

The one major thing you have to be wary of, is rebuilders LOVE to fix these things. Since they sell for SO much money, they buy them at auctions and fix the damage (after being TOTALED) and put them back on the road. Have a trusted mechanic inspect ANY vehicle before you buy it, and have them inspect for previous crash repairs as well. In my experience, over 1/2 the Tacomas i found at used car lots were rebuilt or repaired in some way or another.

DC - I love that first one. If I didn't have mine, I'd probably jump on that one. I love gold, for some reason. Probably because it is closest to that desert tan color on the FJ's I love so much. Pretty good price, too, pending it's in good shape.

They're the same as any 01-04 DC's. Mine's got okay room. It's not the CrewMax, but not an ext. cab, either. People around 6' won't complain on a long trip, but won't be super comfortable, either. But for kids and such, it's perfect. Also perfect for throwing stuff back there. A lot of it. For comparison, it's a little bit smaller than a 3rd Gen rear seat.
