I have a 1996 4runner with 195K. all this talk about S/C has got me wanting one. Do you guys think its worth S/Cing so late? I know Toyotas will last a while but what do you guys think?

Additional stress on the motor at that mileage is always a risk. But a lot of factors come into play here. The current condition of the motor, if the SC'r will have proper tuning mods, and how you plan to drive it.

If your engine has been well cared for, I don't see why not. But that's just me.

yea, i really dont need a S/C but the power is just amazing! I engine was taken care of pretty well. I guess i just needed a to make me realize i dont really need one.. SORRY FOR THE POINTLESS THREAD..

if i was you and had some extra cash I'd buy a new engine, put in on a engine stand and work on it with money you could save...be a neat hobby....Add a S/C, 7th injector kit, URD...not including a ton of internals you could do....not many people have the money to justify doing something like that though...

I thought 195k miles was the recommended break in period for toyota engines.... the way i see it... you still have 100k left on that engine... im sure a s/c wont hurt

haha....i guess i should save my money for something bigger.

I dont have enough for a new engine. Im getting a nice check in the mail soon and wanted to spend some of it. Oh well.

i might suggest the 285's and a 1" bl like we talked about. I love my s/c but it does have drwbacks
--premium gas
--URD kit w/ wideband roughly $1200 not including install(did myself)
--Tranny cooler, cheep, but still $$$
then depending on what you have, exhasut and maybe headers (too much of a PITA for me)
my point is that it will cost a minumum of 2500-3000 to do it right. Not cheep.

it is a lot of fun and I still get around 18-19 mpg on the interstate with summer gas, but 285s w/ new gears would probably $$$ better spent. And more useful. If you want to go fast on a budget, an s/c 4r is not might first choice

i would go with the 4crawler BL w/ upgraded hardware. it was about 120 shipped. I hate sourcing bolts, especially when you can buy it all complete.

Go for the supercharger. What does it push in? Six or seven p.s.i. max? The engine should be fine. Just change the oil like a madman and make sure everything (ignition, cooling system, etc.) is in peak shape.

no offense, but do you have any experince w/ the s/c. If were just as simple as bolting on an s/c, then more people would have them. The altitude in VA is such that w/out fuel mods the engine pings BADLY. To run an s/c right and ensure longevity, fuel mods of some sort are neccesary IMO.
