$18 aux reverse lights (image heavy 640x480s)
I brought this up in another thread.
I recently pruchased a set of $8 55W driving lights from Harbor Freight. These are on sale through December 6th. I re-used a pair of channel mount CB antenna bases I purchased from Mike @ Xtreme last year. These were originally used to support a set of PIAA 520 driving lamps over the hood. I got tired of that look and pulled them off. Last week, I had an idea to reuse them in a similar application. My old aux lights had taken a substantial beating. Espcecially since they were suspended under the rear bumper. They saw the end of their usable life after a trip up Slaughterhouse last year. They saw the end of their decorative life after a "look what I can do" stunt over a large rock.

Yesterday, I got to work removing the plastic bumper trim. In the process, I received a dried mud facial. How pleasant. Thank goodness I had the foresight to where goggles.

After wiping away a full pound of dried mud and dirt, I drilled three holes to hold the bracket. Why three? Because I took me two holes to realize one hole would be sufficient to hold the whole works. :pat:

After reassembling everything, I stepped back and took a picture.

These are wired into one of the terminals on this switch:

$8 for the lights, and ~$9 for the brackets...I'm happy with that.

very cool. how's the light output? how come you didnt wire them to the reverse lights directly? Im assuming it would be a pain in the butt...

Sweet! Looks good. Those were only $8?? How is the beam? Are they pretty wide? I need some rock lights...
I chose the more perminant wroute... I took a plazma cutter to the coffee can back there we know as the rear bumper.

The look good.. very nice mounting job..
Warning: I have a set of these lights and there is no weather seal where the mounting bolt comes out of the housing.. on mine you can look into the unit from the mount hole.. if you can see in, moisture can get in..
I have used these on my F-350..

Looks great!
I'm going to do the same thing on my 88. But I'm going to run a relay to the reverse lights so the fog lights come on with the reverse lights.

Just as a note, if you live in a climate that has seasons, those Harbor Freight lights WILL crack when you turn them on. Hot bulb + cold weather = many water seeping cracks in the bottle quality glass.

Bob, is that in reference to my post?
If so, nothing can help the cracks. The glass is cracked across the surface and will fall to pieces when the retaining plastic piece is taken off.
