'03 V8 throttle response

'03 V8 throttle response
Does anyone else have the throttle take a second or two to kick in when you step on it? I feel like i step on it, then it kicks in...i have seen this on my dads 2000 tundra with the same V8...just lookin for anyone elses take on this, just a delay in acceleration...i want better response off the line

No help here, mine has instantaneous throttle response. I don't recall others mentioning throttle lag, either. With the new short-geared 5A/T, it has a hellacious launch for a 4,400 lb. truck.
Probably unrelated to fuel, but FYI I've always run Chevron Supreme. Since it's a fly-by-wire system, maybe something electronic going on that the dealer could detect with their scan tool. Good luck, keep us posted.

ok...how about just lets say driving at lets say 50 mph and then wanted to accelarate....sometimes i step on it and all of a sudden it kicks in and the rpms go up pretty quick...ya know what i mean?

If your truck is lagging on take off at lower speeds I had the same thing on mine when it had a few hundred miles on it.
Almost gave myself wiplash but I eventually over came it and knew how hard to press the gas pedal and someone also mentioned in a past thread that the computer reads how you drives and adjust to how you usually drive

Oh, unless it just started happening, that sounds more like the 5A/T going through it's motions. It has AI that adjusts shift patterns to learned driver behavior. Example is mine that downshifts on light to moderate throttle that will make the truck surge forward, sometimes when I don't want it to. That's why I shift manually most of the time. Also, the 5A/T shift sequence is: unlock torque converter, retard timing, change gear, and reverse sequence. All in the name of reducing shift shock. So maybe now, because the tranny is so smooth, it seems to be throttle lag. Have you noticed that it automatically downshifts either throttle off or braking on a decline when in D? Nice to have that extra engine braking.
