'03 Tacoma won't start... broken timing chain?
I've got an '03 Tacoma 2.4l with 230k miles. Until today it has run like a new truck, and has only needed minor repairs over the years. I just went to start it up... it fired, revved a little, and died right away. After that it seems to crank faster but not start, and when I have someone else turn it over I smell raw gas at the tailpipe.
The first thing that comes to mind is a broken timing chain, but I would have expected it to be making noise before breaking. This motor has always been silent and smooth.
I don't know of a quick way to check this. If that's what it is I'm going to tow it in to be fixed, my days of doing projects like that are pretty much gone. Does it sound like I'm on the right track, and are there other things I should be checking? Any help here will be greatly appreciated.
