Well as far as work is concerned, i'd have to;

1. Find a hood from a 1996 - 2002 4Runner Sport Edition
2. Cut out the scoop w/ a plasma cutter from work
3. Cut a hole in my 1995 hood w/ a plasma cutter from work
4. Graft the scoop on
5. Smooth out the graft
6. Prep for paint
7. Paint
8. Clearcoat

When it's all said and done the money really adds up.

Tape and a grinder with a cutting wheel. No torch/plasma cutting, and doesnet mess up paint. Aftermarket scoop that is drill and bolt on. so no messed up paint anywhere. just a thought.

Well if i did any scoop it'd be a 3rd gen scoop retrofitted to go on my 4Runner. And no matter how i did it there would still be some painting that needed to be done.

Ahhhhh, the Plot(and the POT) THICKENS! hehe.

So, what's the difference in cost between just getting this stock/road ready and doing a swap? JUST CURIOUS! lol.

Well, there are 3 options.

Option 1 - To do the bare minimum would be to just replace the gaskets and clean out the cylinders that have gotten rusty. There is no telling how long that would last. This is also the cheapest, it would only cost me time and the price of gaskets.

Option 2 - Do a full rebuild of the 3.0. That would cost a good amount of money and i'd still be stuck with the 3.0.

Option 3 - Swap in a 3.4, that would also cost a lot of money but at least then i'd have a sweet motor.

PS> Oh yeah, I hear ya on that motor... it's a GEM! I'd still probably head up to RMA's and do a 1UZ swap with him, but that's just cause I LOVE that motor, and my dad has one with 400K! NEVER rebuilt. HG i think, but he caught it right away. Anyway, that's the PERFECT motor for that truck,....they just hadn't invented it yet! hahaha. I think the 3.0 get's a bad rap because people are expecting it to be a "PERFORMANCE V6", instead of a "Fairly reliable and torquie V6" haha.

The 1UZ is a fantastic motor and you can get one for cheap!

I agree with you 100% on the 3.0 btw

@ 92_Toy this thread is like 3 days old. I sold him the truck Saturday and can't believe he already has 4 pages on this thread (just found it myself.)

Hearing that there is a pre-fabbed exhaust crossover and wire harness connections for this swap makes me wish I hadn't sold the truck to Brian. Its the perfect truck for it but I have enough projects right now. Hope you get it up and running soon Brian.
