gonovr's 1992 4Runner Build-Up Thread - Project "1 Ton"

I dont usually post up on YotaTech but i thought id give you guys the first look at my new 4runner build up. Projected started 27 Jun 2010.

Stock

Body lift installed (I hate them but it makes it alot easier clearing the firewall.)

Out with the old

Frame rails cleaned up

Motor mounts boxed in

The new heart a crazy strong 383

Test fit and mock up for 383/TH400

GM dana 60 narrowed 2.75" pass and 5.75" driver it now sits at 61" wms

Ford Dana 70U narrowed 1" pass 3.50" driver for another 61" wms

Yukon Chromoly 35 spliners

Front hanger mounted for mock up

All brackets front and rear have vanished

Front springs are custom 8" alcan units with a centering pin 2" forward


Dana 60 hung with an e-locker and a riddler diff cover (F-in stout unit)

The new shoes


A rough test fit, I think they will clear just fine.
This is the build up to today, tomorrow i have to flip the shackles, burn the front hanger and shock hoops in and put the motor and trans in for good. This is just the beginning, should be mostly complete next week. If you have questions please feel free to ask. I know im leaving alot out and ill get more through in the coming days.

As for a build list from the ground up...
40x14.5x18 BFG Mud terrtain KM2
American forged 18x10 wheels
Dana 60 front w/ yukon 4.88's eaton e-locker, custom inner 35 spliners, stock outter stubs, riddler diff cover, housing narrowed 5.75 driver and 2.75 passenger with the c's rotated 8*, 1350 yoke.
Dana 70U rear w/ yukon 4.88's detriot locker, yukon chromoly 35 spline shafts, disc brake conversion, riddler diff cover, 1350 yoke.
Alcan 8" custom toyota springs front center pins moved 2" forward
Fox reservoir shocks
Sky Manufacturing hangers, shackles, perches, u-bolt kits front and rear
1350 spicer CV drivelines
383(lots of mods), full manual valvebody th400, Atlas 4.3 2 speed T-case

Well i got more done today... Engine and trans are permanently back in, got the headers installed, wheels mounted, balanced and installed. flowmasters got dropped off today. Burned all the front suspension in. Burned the shock hoops in (might be alittle too far forward but i cant tell because the springs havent settled all the way yet). Cleaned up all the frame rails and cross members to start hanging the rear axle tomorrow. Atlas T-case finally shows up tomorrow and that will be installed. Mock up for the new transfer cross member will be tomorrow. Pictures are uploading right now and im beat so ill post up in the morning.

Well they went up faster than i thought.

Wheels on, front axle back on rolling status.

Rear axle getting ready for mock up.

The healthy front shot.

clearance check after engine and trans set into place.

Im 6'0'' even to give you an idea.
More updates to come tomorrow.

To be honest right now im not even looking at receipts, I do know the price tag is hefty but i went with all high end stuff. As soon as im done ill start tallying costs up and get it a ballpark.

All right, got some more done last night.


T-case showed up.


Installed the Atlas, had to clock it all the way down 25* still dont have a perfect line to the front axle but since i have hubs and the atlas the driveline wont spin unless used anyway.

Rear axle is getting mocked up

hangers, shackles, and springs are tacked in, springs are extremely soft (more than i thought they would be). im ass heavy about 3.5 in. front to rear. 4" blocks and a shackle mount adjustment should take care of that.

March serpentine system comes today, headers will be permanent, fuel system will have a good start, grab some blocks and finish burning the rear in.

Have you ever tried turning a 40" tire on a 18" steel wheel? It takes 2 of us to put the tires on as it is. I know i have the power to turn steel, but the less power it takes to turn the tires makes more power i get to the pavement. It will have steel double beadlocks but they wont be on traditional tires, you'll have to wait and see about what im talking about.

Awesome, looks really good man.
Wish I had the money to do something like this to mine, it's gonna be expensive, but then again its probably just like buying a newer truck only it wouldn't be nearly as sick as the 4Runner. Keep it up.

Had to cut out early today so i didnt get as much done as id like.



Well its sitting level now, had to move the shackle hanger forward 3/4" and add a 4" block.

Installed my march serpentine system and now i have dimensions for my radiator, also reclocked the fuel pump and got most of the plumbing done fuel wise in the engine bay.
Im takin a few days off to head to the coast so ill be back at it on sat.

Well now the little problems start surfacing... Headers are extremely too close to plugs and wires, beginning to think i was sent the wrong ones. Hoping the remflex gaskets and plug wire heat shields take care of the problem. Having a real hard time finding someone to build a radiator, the one i used in my last conversion is no longer available. Did find out something intresting though, a toyota pressure side power steering hose threads right into the back of a flare style gm pump. All this time of making custom hose when a self piece will just bolt in, go figure. Fuel system is coming together. gutted the tank, tapped a new outlet and made a stainless pickup in the tank and ran -8AN down the frame rail to then engine. My etremely fancy pulley kit came alittle too close to the pass. fender well with the A/C Compressor so i have to mill down the tensioners and run a smaller belt, shouldnt be a huge issue. Custom tie rod and drag ling came today so tomorrow it should finally steer by itself. Hopefully monday it will get loaded up to go to the exhaust shop. Ill put up more pictures tomorrow.
