see my thread for my adventure / extremely SLOW progression. I will be buying the exact same TC setup as you to include the pumps and also the chain and guides and gasket set with head bolts from Ted.

Well...long time no speak. What started out as a timing job in mid-December has turned into almost a complete rebuild! (Plenty of pics to post up but no computer) The only thing remaining is the block...I really want to rebuild it but I'm not sure my budget is going to allow it...fingers crossed... I'll try to keep this updated and maybe have some pics up soon.

Rebuild Pics!

Alright...I'm about to upload the pics of everything as it has gone down thus far. Please forgive me if it isn't all in technical terms...I'm not really a mechanic...and I did very little work on this. The credit belongs to my dad...as much time as he has spent on this thing while I've been at work and school, you would think it was his own Toyota.

We started on December 16th and this was a progress shot of the first day. If I remember correctly, in this pic, the following has been removed: radiator, radiator fan/shroud, belts, EFI intake tube, spark plug wires, and some other hoses.

Valve Cover Removed

Well...here is the valve cover removed.

Pictured below, is the timing chain situation, and it was worse than I actually expected. On the passenger's side you have half a guide and on the driver's side...NO guide...my friends were amazed, but I expected that kind of Toyota quality!

Passenger's Side

Driver's Side (check out those train tracks down the side)

Removal of Intake, Exhaust, and Head

Anyway...we were going to stop here when we discovered that only two of the four original spark plugs would come out...the second and last spark plugs were cross threaded. So...it was off with the head to get the spark plug ports re-threaded. That was really the opening shot that started the complete rebuild. The farther we tore into the engine, the more we found things that we didn't like. So...the first thing removed was the exhaust manifold.

It put up a little fight...but eventually came off. The Intake manifold was a different story. The intake took days before we could finally get it off (some of that was because it was so doggone cold outside and because we were both working)

However, as I mentioned above it finally came off and with it the head as well. At the moment it is sitting in the yard pretty much as pictured here.

Parts back from machine shop!

I've gotten my head, EFI, exhaust manifold, intake manifold, rocker arm assembly, and valve cover back from the machine shop and they look awesome! In addition I got my starter and alternator rebuilt too! I will have pics up soon.
