Hmm... I think I'm gonna drive it places.
Mostly, I want to use it for running the Saddleback Mountain trails. Also, to get to some good hunting grounds, in the Cleveland national forest.

Last but not least, I want to get 30mpg, while doing all this.

Pulling the speedometer cable.

Front view... don't worry, it'll be repainted.

Hard to get everything to line up right. I think this side still needs a bit of inner fender tweaking to get the corner light to line up.

hmmf... anyone got any leads on speedometer cables for my R150F transmission.
The dealer wants 157$$$$$ >_<

I have the old one, but the housing is thrashed. Maybe I could get just a housing?
Thing is, I can't seem to find the part on any of the parts websites. Napa and O'Reilly don't even know my truck is supposed to have a speedometer cable...

I know nothing about diesel swaps, is that kind of mileage realistic, or are you kidding? If it is, then I know exactly what I'm swapping when I get out of college!

Totally... and with way more torque than the v6 once you chip and stick bigger nozzles in the TDI....

Check out this thread on TDI Club: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=142679
Scroll down till you see Toyota trucks. Pretty much everyone with a finished truck is reporting 30 mpgs avg.
Most TDI guys are mileage nazies too... you can bet they're doing the numbers right.

Here's my spreadsheet for my jettas lol: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?...GYjNmZEE&hl=en
The 1998 tab has a lot more data.
Basically, these trucks are about 25% heavier and there's a bit more wind resistance... so yea... a 25% drop off of my 42 MPG puts me at oh... 30 mpg or so.

The battery on the ground is old advice for older batteries.. does not affect new batteries..

haha I didn't even know that urban legend... Yea, the battery case is completely insulated(plastic)... dunno why it would discharge?
Anyway, it was dead dead dead from the previous owner, so I got a new one.

That's so cool! Now, if someone could verify it that you can get >30 MPG with an auto you'd really have me totally sold! Still an awesome swap, though, I'll be looking at it closely along with the other swap I'm considering, the 3RZ.

haha they're in the garage... I had an unfortunate incident last week involving my TDI rolling off a hill, but God is good and I'm alive.

On the plus side I have a full and complete engine swap now... It's hanging on a hoist in the garage, while I try to make a few bucks parting out the rest of the stuff.

I did finally figure out my misfire/rough-low idle issue... the timing was at like.. 0 degrees.
So I tried to rotate the distributor cap, but it was already rotated fully. I guess the previous owner hadn't put the rotor in right.
Anyway, I pulled it out and rotated it 2 gear teeth back. Now the timing is up at 12 degrees and the whole thing runs properly.

I'll get some more pictures up shortly.

Here's the post from my TDI conversions thread on ... tdiclub...
You can read it here if you're interested in the diesel aspect of this project: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread...12#post3390912

It's official... After a few months of planning and plotting, I've started my conversion.
Currently, the plan is to make my own adapter plate and drill the flywheel. The engine mounts will be done similar to jimbote here: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=293577

So here's where we really begin....

Introducing the 1988 4runner 4x4 V6 3.0...

Featuring no front bumper and not quite aligned fenders/hood since the previous owner had rear ended someone.

As a whole it's in ok condition, but the V6 has 90psi on cylinder 4 and is netting me 13 mpg. This will not do!

All right, so we need an engine, well.... I was gonna just buy one like a normal person, but unfortunately, before I quite had the 4runner on the road (from the PO's accident), I managed to crash/roll otherwise total the body of my daily driver.

Here she is:

After quite a lot of parting out, this is what I'm officially starting with.

Running Engine:

Not so running truck:

Here's the R150F bellhousing... I'll be getting the starter/flywheel/clutch lined up off the truck, then just bolt the bellhousing back onto the transmission.

And here's a picture of the flywheel I'm going to have to figure out how to drill.... I'm thinking to weld all the holes up and start from scratch.

Anytime guys! Definitely gonna be awesome.

I'm attempting to develop my adapter plate, however I'm running into a sort of speed hump... it's hard to measure accurately from a difficult to determine center point. :/

Help me make my adapter plate!
