My 1985 4Runner Budget project

Hello Everyone. This is my new project. I picked up this 1985 4runner with 361000 miles on it for a steal. It has a rebuilt 22re that runs flawlessly. Also has an IFS Rear axle. Needs paint and interior but everything works and came with a parts 4runner so I can transfer the interior over.

First thing I did was ditch those stock front springs with negative arch on them and threw a pair of 4" procomp springs with some rancho shocks. Sits pretty high in the front. I also put some 30" inch tires for now. Next is some rear springs and some sliders.

Took it to Cleghorn with a couple of buddies

Some Updates. I added some Downey 2 inch lift springs in the rear, with some new marlin crawler shackles. It sits almost level now. I also added a Long tub Downey header.

Here I took it to azusa canyon to flex it out. Not bad for have $175 Into the lift

After flexing it out I realized I needed longer bump stops. These are off an old Celica

So I made some recent progress on the 4runner. First off was new to me Hankook dynapro MTs 31x10.5r15. Then I found a Detroit locker 3rd and threw it in the rear. That was a budget breaker but its ok. it was needed. Lastly I bought a bumper from my buddy. It was custom made for his 87 runner but he is parting it out. I am in the process of making it a bolt on to my 85. Also have a lock rite locker coming in for the front.

Great looking runner man. I love the pic of the front end in the Air!!Pretty nice looking front bumper also.

If you dont mind me asking, How much did you get the front springs for? And how do they ride? Im in desperate need of front springs.

Thank you. The front springs ride kinda stiff but I am hoping is that with the weight of the bumper and a winch they will ride nicer. I picked them up for 40 bucks brand new

Sweet!! Ya I am going to put the lockrite in the axle i just picked up and rebuild the one under the truck since it leaks bad. I got a pleasant surprise in the mail today. My new to me 3rd is a V6 one. Sweet. Wish I could throw it in the rear but I rather have the detroit back there

I feel the same way. I have a Detroit ratcheting locker in the rear if mine. Takes some getting used to while driving.

So I got the Bumper 90% done. A SR5 cluster put in and had a pin hole leak in the radiator and put some stop leak in. I am also Debating if I should leave the Lockrite out of the front till I completely rebuild the extra axle. Or should I put it in the extra axle throw it under the Rig and rebuild my current one. The current axle under the 4runner is leaking oil from the axle seals badly. Any ideas? I will post pics tomorrow
