Engine shakes uphill at 40-50mph
Hello everyone, Im new to yotatech. Ive got a 1985 toyota 22R carburated pickup single cab.
I hope you guys might help me a bit. When going uphill at 40mph approx. and in 5th or 4th gear, the engine starts to shake like if it was going to stall. Ok, you might think its because of the "steep hill" but its not that steep, mayb 25 degrees steep. Its likle going up levels on a parking garage building.
When this starts to happen, I need to change to 3rd and even 2nd gear. It just doesnt look like a "gear problem" because lets say Im entering the hill at 50mph and it isnt that long, mayb 150 meters. Also, there are other old trucks that pass me, even old 85s 4runners and pickups...
Dont know if this might be the issue, but the carburator "floar level" isnt quite leveled. Im no expert in carburators, Ive only worked with EFI, so Im new to this. I just dont want to disassemble the carb and mess up.
Another synmptom is that the car wont go up 50mph, even when I press the gas pedal, it just stays at 50mph, I have to move to the slow lane because the cars pass me.
I will attach some pictures for reference. Also, as I mentiones before, Im not a carburator expert, so I dont know what "kind" of carburator does my pickup have. Im planning to buy a repair kit...
replaced:
plugs wires
plugs
air filter
vacuum hoses
calibrated valves (mechanic did it)
exhaust gasket (mechanic did it)
failsafe thermostat with o-ring (gauge only reaches 1/4 hot)
theres no black or white smoke from exhaust.
