ditch68's 1985 4wd build up thread

Hi!

I thought I would introduce myself.

I have been driving an '87 2wd with a 3" body lift and taller tires for a while to fill the void my now departed jeep left, and finally found the best replacement I could hope for.

It is a 1985 4wd standard bed. It is about the most stripped, plain Jane truck you could buy. No power anything except brakes, 22R (no EFI), manual steering box, no A/C, and even a radio delete. Just a truck...

It has a 4" Rancho suspension lift, alloy wheels (needs tires), and I added the ammo boxes, Hi-Lift, and fuel cans to the bed, along with the lights up front. I plan to add Trail Gear tube bumpers front and rear, TG rock sliders, a small winch (any suggestions?), an Aussie locker in the rear, and eventually a small 4 point cage in the bed and a couple racing buckets so the kids can ride in the back safely. New tires will be the first addition.

The guy I bought it from bought the truck in 1986 off a local dealer, it was a trde-in with 12,000 miles. He used factory Toyota parts for repairs and maintenance whenever possible. It came with a factory service manual, a few boxes of parts, and it has 165,000 miles now.

Trans mission rebuilt 12,000 milkes back, with a new clutch.

Total price, $1800...

Looking forward to the build, and fun on the trail. I've already had it wheeling - it is amazing. My brother has had a 1983 for years, and we have had a ton of fun with it.

Off down the long road of endless modifications!

Jeff

Engine after a trip to the power washer...amazingly clean, and 100% bone stock original under there.
