msiegpt 1982 4x4 truck build father son project
This is a father and son project. My 12 year old has talked for a couple of years of wanting to work on a vehicle. He originally wanted to do a restore on a 1976 monte carlo that is grand father had. His grand parents ended up donating to a boys home. He decided he wanted to do a truck and the original plan was when he was 14 we would find something, most like a chevy 4x4, since his uncle and I have a stash of parts from builds we have done. Anyway we stumbled upon this truck a few weeks ago and the price was right and seemed to be in pretty good shape. The previous owner told us it was his daily drive until the clutch went out while coming home from work 2 years ago. It has set since with intentions of fixing it.
This is my first toyota project and will be a slow build since its a father-son project. Its a learning experience for him as well as time we can spend together.
Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated.
Looks like some patching might have to be done.
Yep Rust.
So far we have cleaned out all the junk, changed the oil, plugs, wire, coolant, and have it running. We also pulled out the seat and the old vinyl flooring. Next we need to clean out the old tar and prep to repair the floor damage.

Thanks Cedge,
I have been looking at your project as well. So far the plan on the floor in to cut out the rust and weld in a piece of sheet metal. I will let you know how that goes.
