Yokohama Geolander AT-S, What do you think?
I'm looking for a great set of AT tires. The BFG AT's are a proven tire, but what about the Geolander AT-S's (they are about 20% cheaper)? Has anyone tried them?
Thanks

Haha im posting everywhere.
I was going to go with these tires, they look great and im sure they perform as well. They just dont look quite as rugged as BFG. I ended up going with Pirelli Scorpion at's because they were cheaper and I was impatient.

I've been running the geolandar at+II's for about 25,000 miles now. They're less than halfway worn. They have great on and off road traction. They clean out really good in the mud. However, they are tough to keep balanced. But I haven't had them balanced with a haweka adapter. They are slightly noisy for an all terrain, but I don't mind it at all. I would buy them again. Have you considered the geolandar muds? http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....dar+M%2FT+Plus

I have been eyeing those Geolander M/T's for awhile now. Everytime I see them I just think "Sexy!" Now I'm just waiting for summer. I figure by then my BFG's will be about done.

I just ordered a set of AT-S's and I'm having them installed this Friday afternoon. We're supposed to get rain on Saturday turning to snow on Sunday. They're talking 15 inches so I should be able to give a good report by the end of the weekend...

from what i have heard they are great tires-- the a\t-s... i have bf long trails and when they wear out i am going with the geolander at-s for sure. they are cheaper, supposedly last longer, better wet pavement traction also.. a good friend of mine has them on all 3 of his trucks. he has a ranch in texas and he loves them. he wont buy any other kind of tire.. now the only problem is that you may have to go up a size in tire bc they dont sell 225/75/15 . you have to go up to the 235's.. no big deal to me. i have factory size now a size up wont hurt a bit! i say go for it and right up a report about them here..

Thanks for the great insight... I currently run 235's and I'm going to take the jump to 31's... The BFG AT's are tried and true, but the AT-S's look like a great tire... and just as you mentioned people are reporting that they are a solid performer... And a 20% savings means I can spend that money on something else for the 4Runner
Thanks!

Well, I had the AT-S's put on today and so far they have been great. Extremely quiet but the ride is a bit harsher than the stock Goodyears. I only have 30 miles on them so I'll update this later this weekend after we get some snow but so far so good!
Oh yeah, 265/75/16 on my 2002 with sagging stock 70k suspension. No rubbing!

This last weekend we were comming home fron the Grand Canyon and decided to take a back road on the way home. I was driving my wifes 01 4Runner with the Geolanders my fater-in-law was running the BFG's on his Titan. The road was really rough on had alot of rocks. Well wouln't you know the POS BFG went flat and after inspection it was a rock that had torn the ire between the tread.
You migh say it's just bad luck but this same set of tires got 6 flats in 1 week when we were hunting big horn sheep, the geolanders (AT-II+ and AT-S have both check signature) had no problems.
I have taken mine in rocks, sand, streams, snow and ice and I love them. No mud though I hate washing that crap off.

Well, we have about 8 inches on the ground here in Minneapolis and these things are great! I went out for about 20 minutes and I'm not disappointed at all on how these things behave in the snow. Braking is very good and I would attribute that to the tread not getting packed with snow.
Just pulled it in the garage and took a quick picture.
