nice job-thanks for the end pics

my son is working on mine now in the 3rd gen 16x7 size. We are removing a damaged clear coat with extremely fine sandpaper -320 wet/dry I think it is- he is the brains of the outfit.

Most helpful - appreciate you guys naming names.

we did ours with the tires off and no weights or anything. Personally I would not even begin to attempt it on the vehicle but that's just me....

I think you meant tires, right? You can mask off carefully and you'll get nothing on the tire. All of the kits I sell come with premium masking tape for this very reason.

As for painting rims while still on the vehicle...I've done it before. You have to paper off and blanket the rest of the vehicle really well. And be sure to have some showroom shine and a clay bar around in case you get overspray on your paint. It takes about the same amount of time to remove the wheels so it's way better just to do that. I never recommend painting the wheels while mounted on the vehicle to any of my customers.

I painted a set of aluminum rims with duplicolor after peeling the clearcoat off with aircraft paint remover and heavy sanding... worked great. I used a matte black and just touch up every few months as may be required.
