Most of the tires being discussed here are fine for cruising down the road at speed but there are better choices for those who use their vehicle in the manner for which it was designed (mixed on and off road driving.) For the rest of us who venture off highway, you all need to check the sidewall of the tires that you choose. Dunlops for one are paper thin. Most OEM tires are also marginal. The BFG all terrain and Goodyear ATS are both better compromises than a pure street tire.
I get 50K plus out of a set of BFG's and have run up to 60K miles. And you can't beat the price of a BFG AT.

The Yoks,Nittos and Revos are all cheaper than the BFGs and the BFGs are a so-so daily driver tire IMO especially when it comes to wet traction. The Yoks compare quite favorably to the BFGs offroad and are a fair amount cheaper and have nice dry/wet pavement manners.

If you NEVER go off-road then any AT tire is overkill but when I venture off the pavement I like having a tire that's ready for it.

the last tires I bought were 400$ a piece Goodyears so I guess a 125$ BFG to me seems cheap in retrospect.

i use the Geo's off-road. they work very well. i had BFG's, but i like the Geo's better all-around. The BFG's have an extra sidewall ply, which is nice, but they are more expensive than they use to be.

FYI. I promised I'd tell what I ended up with. I still wanted the Geo HT/S G051 set and I scheduled for an appointment this morning. Low and behold, they didn't have them in stock. So for their error, they offered me a set of Michelin LTX M/S SL ORWL, installed for the same price! Plus, the 50$ rebate for the Yoks are offered for the Michs as well. For 446.95 installed it included the normal 60K warr. & Road Hazard-Free Replacement, environmental fee (old tire disposal is state required) and lifetime balance & valve replacement. And after the $50 back in a rebate, this will make it under $400 for me!!
I know the Tire Rack rates the Geos pretty high. But I knew that the Michelins did as well. Also, if you look closer the Michs have been rated with over 33milion miles of road use. I'd say that they are tried and true. So I will be putting my set to the test this year for many terrains and weather. I will be back to give you my report as the miles pile up.
In light of this, I am pleased I have purchased a tire that was normally $160 a tire. That being said, the Yokohama tires are still to be said a slightly more affordable tire for the same application but the Michs may last longer. So if these work just as well, I'll be happy.
If anyone would like a set of Yoks, Pirellis, or Michs, plan on a set before the 26th to also get a 50$ mail in rebate! http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/loa...CODINT&pgid=90

Today was the first day on the new set. I can say that rain, snow and ice that I had to drive over made me impressed so far.

The Yok Geolandars are $120 for the bigger 265/75/16s vs the stock size which is $17 more per tire;so bigger is cheaper, what a plus.

I'd probably consider the Revos next time if my other car gets back up and running for the summer. However, I don't expect theses LTXs to wear down in a good long while. I was thinking of the 75 profile too. But the truck is barely a comfortable height for me to step in and out of without using the side step, so any higher wouldn't allow easy access. Plus, your speedometer would be off a bit and you don't want to be speeding without knowing. Plus, the overall center of gravity is raised even higher and that is more of a security and performance on the road concern as well. Otherwise, I do like the fact of being able to see ahead of me riding as high. My low riding sports car is annoying in commuting traffic when not being able to see around some diesel dually on the road. ...

Those justifications sound kinda funny because there is only 1" difference in diameter from 70 to 75 on a 265 tire. So that would change the ride height and center or gravity by an entire 1/2" and your speedo would be off by almost 3 mph.

Just giving you a hard time for the smokin deal you got on those LTXs.
