backspacing and offest?
i have an 82 toyota 4wd and i am going to buy new rims and tires. I am going to run 12.5 wide tires and rims i am lookin at are 4.75 back spacing with a 17mm offset i was wondering if anyone had an idea of what kind of stance i would get from this or if with that kind of backspacing i would rub a lot and end up with wheel spacers also. Currently have 4.5 backspacing and 15 wide tires and do lock to lock no problem but i am just lookin for some opinions and advice of what i can run or what other people are running on their rigs. Its all stock up front im not worring about fender rub i will fix that i just what i good stance and lock to lock steering with 37 12.5 tires thanks guys in my head it all makes since that if i am going smaller tire i will be able to do more backspacing but let me know what yoiu think

I have always run a 4 & 3/4 backspacing on my 1983. 8in wide wheel or 10 inch wide wheel. No problems. The 8 inch keeps tires under fenders. The only item is wheel weights on the inside of rims will hit tie rod boots, so I use stick ons. It looks like you already knew this.

Stock backspacing is 3-3/8:

Most folks find rubbing problems with much over 3-3/4" - 4" backspacing, front will hit the steering arm and rears will rub the frame with articulation.
In fact I now run a 3" wider tha stock front axle, w/ 1" spacers and stock 15x6 wheels and 33x9.50 tires just barely hit the springs at full lock in reverse. Going to swap out those spacers w/ 1.5" units so I can clear 35x12.50s on 15x8 / 3-3/4" backspaced wheels.

Thanks for the input. I will one day be going to a wider front axle and who knows maybe rockwells when i win the lottery but for now its more of a restoration. I have wanted a first gen since i was 15 and finally have hte chance to have one in great shape so i am keeping it more of a just lifted get around hunt and fish truck until rust once again prevails as always on a toyota. I think i will still go with a 4 and 3/4 unless someone knows 16.5 rim that has 4 or less thanks again
