From some previous posts, I began to research tire chains and want to purchase 2 pair in preparation for this winter (and winters to come). Although I've never needed them, I want to have them on-hand.

So far, I decided on the Diamond chains (4.5 mm vs. the class "s" 3.8 mm) from tirechains.com. I'm running P265/75-R16 with no lift, and since there's lot's of room I don't think I need the class "s" chains. With S&H and tax (here in PA), they'll run me $228.33

Does anyone have any experience with these and any pro's and con's? They have their own tensioning device so it sounds like I don't need any other type of tensioner. Any input would be appreciated.

When I lived in PA I used the cable chains on my ranger (RIP). This was after I broke a set of regular chains in the first two miles I used them. But it doenst snow that much in Vegas so I am out of the loop on the newer products.

Thanks, guys (and a bump). I hear the diamond chains are quieter than the more traditional chains that run straight across the tread. My intent is for emergencies only, since I've done fine here in my hilly section of PA for the past 15 years (I drive 32 miles of back roads each way to work and it DOES get hairy at times). But I KNOW there will be times when I'd prefer the security of having a decent set of chains available. I've had a few close calls getting home and don't want to press my luck much more.
