MRE's
Am I the only one that likes a good MRE when out on the trail? Don't get me wrong I love a good wildernes stew but MRE's get you full and back on the trail fast.

I know the feeling when it comes to long periods of time on them. When I responded to Katrina that's all we had and after a while you'd be suprised what I would eat...Road kill gumbo anyone?

I had to eat them for weeks too when fighting the dry lightning fires in Northern California last year. Its not too bad if you get to pick a flavor but sometimes you get stuck with the crappiest, no meat meal.

I have no experience with the traditional MRE's, but some of the commercially available freeze-dried meals (mountain house, natural high, etc) are pretty darn tasty. I could see how eating them for weeks on-end would burn you out though.

Oh no, there's no comparing commercial meals with the mil-spec ones. I think coyotes would turn their nose up at a few of the military ones. But yeah, I can eat the majority of them whenever they're around. I just don't use my money for them, I'll find something else to eat.

also yes these are only good for about 9 consecutive meals. any more and your boot starts looking good
its a shame there so expensive though. if they were cheap id have a case on hand

I love MRE's! Had them for 3 months straight as advance party at NTC. Best one ever- Jambalaya. Take the jalapeno cheese packet, put it in the heater pack with the jambalaya, mix'em together, ad the bottle of tabasco, and BAM!!! Then trade of the rest for a pound cake, MMMMMMMMMM........

They also work when its a couple days to payday and your sitting in the barracks, but dont want to go to the D-fac, just bust open a box and take your pick of gourmet meal.

I think my favorite depends on if I've got the oportunity to use a "heater" or not. How much time to prepare. And the mood. The new menu is better than the original. Had a #35 biscuits and gravy test menu, holy moly it was awesome but that may have been just the novelty of a new flavor. Don't know, don't care.

I enjoy them once in awhile, and if I get a good one, I'm fine, but things like the omelet... wow.... talk about Meals Rejected by Everyone! My favorites would have to be the Beef Stew and the Spaghetti. Especially if I can heat some cheese spread and mix it into the Spaghetti. Most of the vegetarian ones aren't bad if you like pasta.

I actually enjoy most of the MRE's, granted one must take into consideration the fact that I am probably not the ideal judge of flavor seeing as I'm nineteen and I would probably eat gravel if i had to go more than three hours without at least a snack

I could eat MRE's forever, the new ones are better. Some of them have chocolate covered coffee beans, chipotle snackbread, instant milkshakes. The bad is that the beverage base is wayyyy smaller than the old ones. Try the Winter Rations and Troop Rations. The winter rats are packed in a white bag and tatse alot better and have way more options. I like MREs so much, I ate one while working on my truck, you can see the evidence in my build-up thread on the 87.
