V8 Swap

Can someone please point me in the right direction toward a website thread etc that has a write up for a v8 (perferrabley a chevy 350 crate) swap. Ive looked everywhere and am having no luck.
My motor is starting to wear out and like to do a 350 swap instead of a rebuild.
Thanks

Moved to Engine Swap Talk.

This area will be the best place to find your information.

If you go to Search, click Advanced Search from the drop-down and then tell it to only search in the Engine Swap Talk forum you'll get a more narrowed return.

Good luck.

Pretty much exactly what I'm doing right now too. You need to decide whether you're going to be keeping your yota tranny and tcase, or if you're going with the chevy tranny and tcase.

Like me, since my buddy has a v8 garden growing in his front yard at his property, I'm getting that, and the duals he has on his yota since he's finally ditching em to go full chevy driveline. So all I have to get is a gm v8 to toyota tranny adapter (the g52, g54, w56, g58 flavor, not the r150/151f combo), and the 10.5" gm clutch with the toy 21 splines. Not bad at all, was out the door for like $550 to my front door.

http://advanceadapters.com/ Should have info somewhere on their site, but it's a pretty straightforward process. Only other thing you might need is motor mounts. I'm making my own, because after we saw the ones my buddy had to order, they were stupidly simple to make.

Oh and you'll either need a really narrow rad, or mount it under/behind/in your bed, or a 3" body lift. And you might need the 3" regardless to clear the motor and whatnot. You're probably gonna have to chop the firewall a little to clear the dist anyways, but if you try to not do a body lift, you're gonna have to chop the hell outta your tunnel.

I am baffeld you have no luck finding this info and it makes me wonder if your ready for this swap... Now with that said heres a link for ya to start
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f88/...erplant-48564/

The 350 is a heavy motor for the toyota. Its long aswell so pounding on the firewall is needed to be done along with new radiator. Have you looked into maybe a 4.3? Better fit and great power. Oh and its american so parts are Cheap
The 350 puts out loads of power and sticking with your toyota parts IE tranny, tcase, and axles you your gonna start finding out weak links left and right. Now not to say a 350 cant be done and it is all over the place (Search in Pirate4x4 for all the info in the world on these motors and peoples builds)

Things to keep in mind with a 350:
You Need
Tranny adapter if going yota tranny (advace adapter AA)
Mini Starter if going to a 168th flywheel (summit racing sells one)
toyota 21 spline 10.5 clutch disk (AA)
GM pressure plate (AA) (pressure plate can be bought from centerforce)
Misc clutch comps
Aluminuim Radiator
Motor mounts
headers/custom exhaust
Fuel pump
possibly may need a new oil pan for clearance issues with suspension
Custom, Custom, Custom Fabrication Having the tools and skills is very important for such a project.

Just a small list
Try searching more for this info as I know for a fact its out there. I still dont really think the 350 is going to be your best option IMO (but if its really what you want then dont let me be the one to stop ya) Just be prepared to do alot of homework and searching. Could be a sick build and one of the few V8 builds on here.. Just now the question is how badly do you want it? Can you do it or know someone who can? and what other options do you have?

Just an FYI, you dont need a mini starter, you can use any old parts store starter that is for a 153 tooth flywheel (168 is for an auto trans)

You dont need a fuel pump if your going carb. You can use the mech pump on the block and just suck right through the stock in tank pump.

You can see my swap on my site

168th can be for a manual trans... Its the 11" flywheel. the mini starters can be used with both 153 and 168th. you dont need it but they are nice

I would lean towards the chev. v6 as well having done one myself, but I would like to hear from some one w/v8 and toy. trans&transfercase as to how it's holding up with v8 power. I know with my mine when I get some weight in the bed it rides better and does better off road simply because the weight of the engine in front equals the back. I can't imagine what it would be like w/v8. Remember, you might have a 400 h.p. engine but, it doesn't mean anything if you can't get the power to the ground. That being said, I don't why but I have been thinking about getting a late model GM 317 v8 and swapping it into a 4runner but I haven't got the enthusiasm to do it yet. I'm happy with the v6 conv. but don't have room to haul the family in the xtra cab.

In the short time I've had my 350, I've already broken the t-case crossmember, shock mount, and drive shaft bolts.

But the trans and transfer are holding up great. My 350 is very mild though. I think a 400hp 350 would tear stuff up for sure. Thats really overkill though. My stocker 350 hauls ass!
