To the O.P. I think this is an interesting idea. I am always looking for other options and possibilities for a future swap. I am very curious about the mileage and how the power curve works for the application. I may have access to a very cheap 3.8 out of a buick. Keep the posts coming.

Had a few delays, finished the pan today, gotta install the starter tomorrow AM, then install the pan, diff, and steering linkages. (Diff and steering links had to be dropped for pan access, pan has to be dropped for starter access.) Then I have to finish the wiring, and hopefully get the interior back together tomorrow PM. Still have to plumb and bleed the clutch, and install batt cables (Have new cables, all 2 gauge welding cable.) Will add a set of external charging/jump posts below the drivers headlight at a later date. Then gotta get some fuel to the motor, do a quick systems check, top off all the fluids except cooling system, and she SHOULD be ready to fire the first time.

Do we suspect sarcasim?
Hey Kiwi, Most of us know you are the pioneer on the 3800II swap (those who can read, lol). I know it has been a few years for you, but for those who have the 340h transmissions, a 88'-92' Trooper bellhousing from the 2.8L will mate up, as they are the 60 degree GM bolt pattern. (GM and Isuzu was in bed together in those days). I too, have a 3.slow that just died at 180k with head gasket issues. I have looked at a lot of possible swap possibilities, including but not limited to the L36, L67, 3.4 toyota2, Mercedes 616 and 617 diesels. Decisions, decisions? Really like diesel but like the simplicity of the L series(if I am correct on bell housing), looking to have a daily driver and high mpg. I will watch to see how this most current swap is going to see the out come of that home made oil pan. Keep posting!

Sorry for the long time since posting.... Went on Vacation, then work has kept me from getting anything done. Near 100 degree days, no A/C in the shop at work, and long hours. By the time I get off work, I don't feel like doing anything. Will get some pics of the mounts as soon as I can. The oil pan does not hold as much as I would like, but it does fit. I will get some pics posted this weekend.

I barely know how to change the freeking oil in my 98 let alone swap a gm motor into one... and then build my own pan! Everyone here is a Hot Rodder at Heart! And that's what's all about

Sorry guys, not much progress, just a lot of backtracking..... Had to rebuild the headers completely, they were routed out the pass side, and even with wrap were trying to cook the bushings out of the suspension. Haven't worked on her in a while, they are killing me at work right now. Gonna start back up on her in the fall when it is not so miserably hot. She has run though. Still have a few bugs to work out too, but it will get there one of these days.

I finally have had the time and resources to fire back up on the swap. I have redone the blower for the third and hopefully last time, I got a turbo outlet elbow from a junkyard detroit series 60 and it is the perfect size. Grafted it onto the blower after cutting the cast up like a butcher on crack. Made a new flange from 3/4" aluminum plate. (Freebie thanks to my local scrap metal buyer.) Unfortunately, I have taken a bunch of pics and just realized my work comp does not have a memory card reader, so will post them tonight. I cut the last 1.5 inches off my 72 mm throttle body and grafted a mounting plate for an LT1 MAF sensor to it to shorten the intake package. Hoping to finish the headers today after I mount the blower. Will get a few more pics today as I go.
