The top hose for a 99 4runner will work with a 3.0L radiator. Not sure what other years they used that hose on but I think 96-00. You have two options on the lower hose. 1.) Reuse the old thermostat neck and the old 3.0 hose. Might have issues with the alt bracket. 2.) Use a carquest 21025 hose with the 3.4 thermostat neck and cut about 2" off the longer end.

I think the 3.4L needs about 4 qts. I believe I put 4.5 qrts in mine. Might have been 5.

X2 on the radiator inlet. Use the 3.0 inlet and hose, it fits much better than the 3.4 inlet & whatever hose you need to hack to fit in place. You only need to trim a little off the ends of the 3.0 hose and it fits the 3.4 engine perfect.

Once you slide the tc on you can't see the drive gear tabs, so you should make some sort of reference mark on the bellhousing so you know where you're at. Hopefully the mate of your tc notches & gear aren't as tight as mine are. The tc of my old A340H came off and went back on rather easily but it was a different story with the A340F and that made it difficult to know if I was actually oriented correctly. The job will be many times easier once you pull out the engine.

Ok, over 4 months later and this is still not done. I worked on it today for the first time since December and I think I have the TC all the way back now. It is not bolted to the flywheel. How do I turn the TC to line up the screw holes?

I am really pissed off with this and I've been catching hell from the wife. Any one close in Michigan want to earn pizza and beer and come give me a hand?

I think I turned the engine crank to match the TC holes, I know I turned the crank to get to the holes after the first one was in. BTW the first bolt in is the slightly different one to help center it.

What a difference 100 days and 65 deg F makes!

Got the TC on fully and the first bolt in on the very first try!! All but one of the top bolts is in location on the bell housing, because I've lost it, so if anyone has a spare "long" bell housing bolt, I'd like to take that off your hands asap.

Stopped for the night as its scotch and cigar evening, but if the temp is as good in the morning as it was today, I might even be able to fire it up tomorow night!

Congrats! And just in time for tax day!!
Post some pictures when you're done too. Mine is taking longer than I wanted as well but I'd hate to rush something I've never done before...

Could one of you wonderful people point me to a picture or tell me where the accelerator, cruise and kickdown cable attach to the throttle body? Well, I know where they go, just not sure which one is closest to the throttle plate etc etc.

Does anyone have a schematic of the 3.0 auto tranny to 3.4 loom? I've got most of it down but am having trouble figuring out where to connect solenoid 4, and 3, 2, 1 and N for the start safety switch. Also not seeing where the 4x4 connects. I have several unidentified wires that are not in the manual, coming out of the harness that goes back to the tranny, transfer and rear diff.

So you're using a 3.0 tranny (A340H) with a 3.4 swap? Is that right?

Yes that is correct. 3.4, 3.0 auto tranny and 4x4.

One of the problems I've had is my loom was cut to pieces after being told it was in perfect condition, so I've literally had to peice it together, almost every single wire. I've labeled everything I could find on the 3.0 loom that I could identify from the service manual but have several wires that are not in there. Then I have several labeled wires that dont seem to have a coresponding location on the 3.4 loom.

There are only 10 or 12 wires left on the whole swap so this is a tad frustrating and I am so far behind I'm getting the "divorce" stare lol.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that thread. No one took me up on the offer of designing a signal converter.

Still, my problem is I have several wires coming up out of the tranny harness that I cant nail down in any of the wiring diagrams. It would be real nice if someone could help identify those.

techinfo.toyota.com/ you pay 10 bucks for 24 hours and you have access to all the wiring diagrams you'll need. Down load all the ewd's for your vehicle and the ewd's for your donor. And by all the ewds i mean cruise control, a/c, 4wd, back up lights, combination meter, all of them. Good luck

I have all of that - had it since last year. Been through everything I have. I'm not too stupid at schematics - I design electronic controls/products/lighting/appliances for a living - if it were in there, I'd have got it by now.
It looks like I will have to get under the car and trace everything from its origin and figure out what it is from which assembly it comes out of.

I'd like to use the 3.4 alternator with the 3.0 loom. Can I cut and splice at the alternator - are the colors the same? The 3.0 wires to the alt are much beefier than the 3.4 wires. Is there much current through these?
