a343h 4runner box

G'day

I'm currently halfway through a 5vz swap into my 4runner. Ive got the engine in the bay and is all hooked up ready to go. I'm currently doing the wiring to the ecu.

Now ive used a 5vz from our hilux (not sure what it is for you guys but here its a 4 door ute or pickup in your language) and was a 2003 model. Ive used a landcruiser prado wiring loom fo the engine and the auto with its ecu.
I'm sticking with the a343h gearbox that was allready in the car. Now the prado ran a a340f gearbox which was controlled by the ecu, but the 4wd system was controlled by its own ecu. Now we all know the 3vz ecu controlled the transmission.

This is my problem, because the prado's ecu never controlled the 4wd part of the gearbox i dont have a signal to engage the 4wd solinoid in the transfer case.

What i cant seam to find out is if the 3vz ecu puts out a 12volt signal or something else. If it does i can simply hook up a relay and when its shifted to 4wd it will engage the relay and then the solinoid?

So, who knows about these boxes??

Also, in the a343h it has a transfer fluid temp sensor which goes to the ecu, what is it for?? If the transfer gets hot does it disengage the transfer or something? I cant find anything on this either.

Cheers

This site has a lot of factory manuals for various 4Runners and transmissions, hopefully you cab find the answer in one of them

G'day

I just had a look through the different manuals and a a343h is not listed but it must be the same as a340h as it appears to have all the same components and wiring.

I read each different a340h section i could find and none of them explain what is happening with the no.4 solinoid, they do explain what it does. I actually learnt a fair bit from all of them.

It appears that the ecu controls the shifting of h4-l4 when the car is moving. The ecu wont open the solinoid unless vehicle speed is right and other situations are met.

So now i'm wondering if the transfer will engage into l4 without this solinoid connected to anything. When we drive the car we always come to a complete stop before changing any of the transfer postions so may not affect us.

Need to get the car running first so i can test it.

Cheers
