SOUNDS COOL,
I TOO AM PLANNING A CONVERSION ON MY 1990 4-RUNNER.
WOULD YOU MIND ANSWERING SOME QUESTIONS DURING MY TRANSPLANT? I AM A LITTLE NERVOUS ABOUT THE WHOLE THING AND I WANT TO MAKE SURE I DO THIS TRANSPLANT CORRECTLY. I HAVE A 2001 TACOMA ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION WITH A 1981 TRANSFER CASE. WHAT KIND OF LIFT DID YOU DO TO YOUR TRUCK AND WHO MAKES IT FOR THE AUTOMATIC? WHAT DO I NEED TO DO WITH THE TRANSFER CASE TO MAKE I WORK? I AM GOING TO GET THE KIT FROM OFFROAD SOLUTUIONS AS WELL.CAN I USE THE EXISTING SHIFTER OR DO I NEED ALL 2001 SHIFTER AND LINKAGE? WHERE IS A GOOD PLACE TO GET THE WIRE HARNESS AND COMPUTER? THE ENGINE IS FROM A TWO WHEEL DRIVE TRUCK. SO I THINK I NEED A NEW WIRE HARNESS AND COMPUTER? ANYTHING ELSE I MIGHT NEED TO KNOW WOULD BE COOL. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP , PAUL

And now I also have a shift lite. It only took about 2 hours to do and I still have the factory look with a little blue led shift lite.

Yeah Jim, just keep checking fluids. I carry a quart of ATF and a funnel in the truck permanently.

ORS sells the parts and wiring to get it done, but you still need to have an idea of what is going on. It is a kit in so much as it is a compilation of parts, not like a kit car where all the little pieces go together and make a complete model.

Hello,
I have the same 93 4runner and have been strongly considering the same engine swap. Ive had the truck for 6 years and Ive had enough with the fact that the 3.0 is way under powered and sucks the hell out of fuel. Im am interested in hearing more on your conversion, when will you be posting more info on it? And just out of curiosity, does the original trans for 3.0 compatable (connection wise) with the 3.4?

Thanks,
merle

No its really not, the speed sensor is not compatable but some have used it anyway or done some customization (see teamshiftpoint's thread).

That original poster hasn't posted over here in 5 years so I wouldn't hold my breath for an anwser LOL. Here's the 3.4 swap section: http://www.yotatech.com/f160/

3.0L to3.4L conversion

Crap on a cracker. I just read the gauntlet you ran to upgrade from a 3.0 to a 3.4L. I think you've convinced me that I shouldn't attempt it.

Hat's off to you for enduring it and succeeding!

Sounds like it's running great.

I've got a 1991 V6 w/automatic, 100k miles, with a main bearing going out. I was thinking of buying and installing a long block (a remanufactured 3.0 or better yet a 3.4)... but mama mia, I sounds too complicated for a weekend garage monkey.

I've been brooding over how to find the best remanufacturer in the region ... and whether to attempt the 3.4 conversion.

Thanks for the insights.
