3.4 swap stalling
Hello fellow swappers... I posted in the newbie section about this, but realized(because I'm kinda a newbie to posting),that I might get a quicker response here, also it's a good idea to put this out there for anyone else who may experience this. Ok...I did an engine swap in Jan./ Feb. of 2011. The 3.4 has been awesome up until a month or so ago, when it began having problems starting whenever it had been driven for awhile, and then shut off. After a few times at attempting to start it ,I noticed that the mil(check engine light) wasn't coming on with the other lights(batt.,anti-lock,emerg. brake)whenever the key was in the on position. Since then I have had to move the key back &forth from acc. to on until the mil lights and then she will start. It's to the point now where it is stalling after warming up and then wont start for 20-30minutes . I have found a few things out that may be the problem...#1 the black and red wire that goes from the ignition has been cut and spliced with larger gauge wire(about 3")and three crimp connecters, yeah three-two wasn't enough! #2 I connected the original noise suppressor up to that same wire on the drivers side wheel well, and looking at the 97 4runner manual found that the 3.4 noise suppressor is in the engine harness, by the maf plug. so I'm going to eliminate the old noise suppressor and re wire the last owners hack job with crimp connecters ,instead using solder correct wire gauging and heat shrink tubing (what a concept). I hope this will solve my power issue. Any ideas? As it is now I'm stranded in my driveway unable to run my business right because I can't drive without stalling.

The igniter part # I have is: 89621-07010 . I've looked on ebay and there is a bunch of choices for part numbers that all say they will fit a 97 3.4 4runner. any one know if there is a particular "preferred" number for that year, or are they all essentially the same?

I found the problem was the main efi relay. I should have figured it out a long time ago...... so the problem had nothing to do with the swap in the end, just damn near 20 year old parts in a blast furnace environment. I plan on having a spare one with me from now on ... just in case. By the way, the starting relay and the efi relay (located in the main engine fuse/relay box,on the passenger side)have the same Toyota part numbers: 90987-02010.
