call you local toyota. see if the parts department can help, by giving them the parts numbers off the harness and ecu that you have.

the harness you have is for a 97 to 98 tacoma or 4runner try and plug it in to the ecu's you have, that will tell you if it's for a auto or manual.

is there numbers on the motor to tell what year it is? I would like to find out if I have the right harness for the motor before I start on it. I am just about to go out and see what ecu plugs in that is a great idea thanks. Also for reference The m/t ecu is 89661-04310 26pin-16pin-12pin-22pin and the Automatic ecu is 89661-3d321 34pin-22pin-16pin-28pin.

The biggest white plug, laying in front of the ones I am holding in the first picture. There is a spot for 5 plugs and only 4 fit in the ecu.

that connector plugs in to the body harness of the truck the motor came from.the 4th plug you are going to need to get some how, it is also part of the body harness of the donor truck.

Well, The body harness would be the harness for the fusebox and lights and such???. So I would need to swap all that out?.

you're missing the 4th plug to the ecu that comes from the body harness of donor. That plug contains power wires to ecu, signal wire to obd 2 port, ac amp leads and one or two more wires. You'll need that plug. you should also pick up an obd2 port so you can hook up a scanner to pull codes from the ecu.

I have some more pictures of the wiring I will post. I guess I have to go to the wrecking yard and find a toyota with that fourth plug onit do I cut it or will it unplug? Can it be anything with a automatic and a 3.4? And will this work with my 5speed?? Or should I find a whole 5speed harness and use the 5speed ecu and ditch the auto harness and ecu? Also I posted that 4 plugs plugged in to the ecu when in fact 3 did and the fourth like you said is the one I am missing I see you didn't fall for that sorry I guess I had to many numbers in my head at the time. Thanks for all your guys help.

I removed the auto harness and i am on the hunt for a complete manual harness I might put this harness on ebay with the ecu. Can I just get a harness for manual trans for any year 3.4? I called the a dealership and they foundout my auto ecu and harness is out of a 96-97 4runner and my manual ecu is a 96-97 Tacoma. They told me there is 8 diffrent harnesses for the manual alone. Any help please...

I was able to order a matching manual ecu harness from toyota bring in the ecu and see if they can order one. Chances are if there is one. its gonna come from japan. That missing plug needs to come from a similar model year and style rig and needs to plug into the ecu. If you cant find one, you maybe able to order just the plugs for the ecu and order a bunch of wire leads for the plugs if your pins wont transfer over.
