22ret t0 3.4 swap help

I just got a 86 22ret pickup it has the 3.4 bolted in and wires all over the place I have 2 ecu's 1 for auto and the other manual I have a harness on the motor I will try to start plugging away in the morning it needs a lot of work but I think I will start on the wiring I hope you guys can help me. I have done a few swaps but nothing with the 3.4. Is there any diagrams for free?? We dont have smog so I will run no cats and dual exhaust.

Ok I will get that. Thanks. I am trying find some numbers on the motor to find out what it is out of and year all I got was v16 on the passenger side front of motor and I got a bunch of numbers off the harness on a tag 82121-3d400d54 970613 I hope you can shine a light on this for me or point out the location on the number on the block. Thanks

call you local toyota. see if the parts department can help, by giving them the parts numbers off the harness and ecu that you have.

BIG RON 10-30-2009 02:33 PM

the harness you have is for a 97 to 98 tacoma or 4runner try and plug it in to the ecu's you have, that will tell you if it's for a auto or manual.

cbrwags 10-30-2009 04:37 PM

is there numbers on the motor to tell what year it is? I would like to find out if I have the right harness for the motor before I start on it. I am just about to go out and see what ecu plugs in that is a great idea thanks. Also for reference The m/t ecu is 89661-04310 26pin-16pin-12pin-22pin and the Automatic ecu is 89661-3d321 34pin-22pin-16pin-28pin.

My harness is for an automatic will this work with my 5speed?? I also have a problem 4 plugs plugged in fine then the last biggiest plug that goes to the ecu will not plug in the plug is too big.

can you take some pics. and post them?

I wanted to share I found a free wiring diagram for a 22re-22ret

BIG RON 10-30-2009 09:43 PM

what plug are you talking about?

cbrwags 10-30-2009 10:48 PM

The biggest white plug, laying in front of the ones I am holding in the first picture. There is a spot for 5 plugs and only 4 fit in the ecu.

BIG RON 10-31-2009 06:55 AM

that connector plugs in to the body harness of the truck the motor came from.the 4th plug you are going to need to get some how, it is also part of the body harness of the donor truck.

cbrwags 10-31-2009 05:08 PM

Well, The body harness would be the harness for the fusebox and lights and such???. So I would need to swap all that out?.

vital22re 10-31-2009 06:02 PM

you're missing the 4th plug to the ecu that comes from the body harness of donor. That plug contains power wires to ecu, signal wire to obd 2 port, ac amp leads and one or two more wires. You'll need that plug. you should also pick up an obd2 port so you can hook up a scanner to pull codes from the ecu.

I have some more pictures of the wiring I will post. I guess I have to go to the wrecking yard and find a toyota with that fourth plug onit do I cut it or will it unplug? Can it be anything with a automatic and a 3.4? And will this work with my 5speed?? Or should I find a whole 5speed harness and use the 5speed ecu and ditch the auto harness and ecu? Also I posted that 4 plugs plugged in to the ecu when in fact 3 did and the fourth like you said is the one I am missing I see you didn't fall for that sorry I guess I had to many numbers in my head at the time. Thanks for all your guys help.
