Question Which Oil to use in '96 4Runner?

Ok, I have heard quite a few conflicting stories on which Oil (Viscosities) I should be using. I live in Southern ONT. so you know our temps are fairly hot in the summer and can be flipin cold in the winter. Probably best to use 2 different oils for each season??
So, low first # 5w-??, or 10w-?? is the low end viscosity or can I say cold starting concern? And the secon # is the high end or thermal breakdown (big word!) ?? I have used the Castrol Syntec 5w-50 in my VW and it certainly keeps the engine quiter and helps a bit since I am burning a bit of oil.
Can I use this in my 96 4runner or how about the Mobil1 15w-50? Or should I just stay with the 10w 30?

So give me the scoop on this never ending aisle of oils.....

well with a premium synthetic oil such as Mobil 1 or Amsoil, the oil will act the same (in terms of how durable it will be) regardless of which viscocity you use (won't burn up 'cuz it's "thin"). If you have really cold temps in the winter and really hot temps in the summer, i suggest the Amsoil 0w30 year round. Actually, I suggest that to anyone who can afford it; it's simply the best oil i've ever come accross. Make sure you use a high quality filter (preferably amsoil) if you decide to use extended drain intervals and always get an analysis before going with super long interals to see how the oil is holding up in your rig.

go to amsoil.com for more info or read up on the message board about what the best motor oil is according to 'yota owners.

EDIT:

also, you can check out http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php

for awesome info about all oils to help you make your decision!
