How to change power steering fluid?
Thanks for you time and your help. I have looked at archieves but cannot find. I got so much help from my last thread, I thought I would try to push my luck, being in Las Vegas and all.
I have a 1994 4runner. The steering fluid has never been changed. It currently has 110k miles. How do you change the power steering fluid? I have changed all the other fluids. This one I need help on.
I have changed fluids in my Accord, but I look at the 4runner and haven't got a clue.
Thank you for teaching me...Ariel

1. Jack up the front of the truck.
2. Take a turkey baster or other smallish tube to suck up as much of the old fluid as possible.
3. Remove the return line from the reservoir (it has the simple screw-down pipe clamp) and place this line in a jar.
4. Plug the end of the nipple on the reservoir (not the return line).
5. Fill the resevoir to the correct level.
6. Turn the steering wheel right/left to pump out the old stuff.
7. Keep a watch on how much comes out into the jar and add that much back as you go along. Soon the fluid coming out will look like the new stuff that you are pouring in.
8. When your satisfied, reconnect the return line, fill the reservoir, start it up, turn the steering wheel r/l a few times then recheck the level.
9. Dump the old fluid in with the oil for recycling.
Best of Luck
Andrew
