Air conditioning help

Hey all,

My AC just went out on a 400 mile trip from SF to LA . Sucked cause it was way hot. Can anyone help out? Tell me where to start checking?

The AC button lights up when pushed, and a sound can be heard in the engine bay, but there is no extra load on the engine like when the AC usually engages. No cold air, compressor pulley spins, and belt is tight.

Could this be a relay issue? Or am I just out of coolant? I'm at a lost as to where to start checking.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
