'99 4Runner Rattles

Do all '99-02 4Runners rattle as bad as mine? On the highway it's fine..nice and quiet. But on backroads, secondary roads, jeez it rattles bad. My '95 is doesn't rattle this bad.

My seat latches rattle. I just fold them dowm. You can put some tape on the latch to help. The plastic trim around the drivers side window controls rattle/squeak some. Other than that, I just have a slight buzz from behind the radio area during acceleration.

In general, I feel that it's pretty tight.

i have only ever had the stupid cargo cover in the rear squeak because the little nubs wore down to the plastic. so plastic on plastic = squeak.

i fixed that by sticking little pieces of felt on the nubs.

That's a good idea.....mine squeaked badly and got in the way so I took it out and left it in the garage.

yup... two rattles are the seat latches and the cargo cover attachemnt points.

a wrap of electrical tape around the latch hoop at the point of contact will fix the seat rattle.

a few of the table/chair felt pads in the right places will fix the cargo cover rattle.

another source of rattles are the tie-downs in the cargo box in the back. roll up a shop towel and then strap it in w/ the tie-downs to silence that one.

another one is the rear seal on the rear window. if the window is partially down, the seal doesn't hold it tight enough and it will rattle. the only way to silence that one is to have it all the way up or all the way down on rough terrain.

other than that, my 99 is VERY tight and rattle free since i've fixed those.

Also, check the screws under the dash to make sure they are tight.

Check your side-view mirrors. My passenger side had some play and caused an annoying rattle.

Ours have the same problem from both sides. How did you fix it? I thought that maybe the 3 bottom screws were lose, but they were not. The entire mirror housing shakes while driving.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chuck
