3rd Gen Oil change 3.4L how many quarts?
Just changed the oil on my 98 4runner Limited 3.4L (first since bought), and I thought 6 quarts would qwench her thirst but it only got to the bottom of the low oil mark on the dipstick. I put in another half quart and now I am in between the dots but is this normal one book I have said 5.7 quarts? This was done wth a filter change but what gives? No leaks just more oil than I expected 6.5 quarts?

Thanks Bob I looked at that as well before I posted, but it just seemed like it was alot of oil for a 3 litre? Anyway I always check my oil level after a change anyway, and good thing too. The Hayes book I looked in did say with new filter 5.7quarts I believe I will go double check.

It must take more than a minute to drain back down? Checked today and it's .5 over. So it looks like 5.5 - 6 is my magic number?
:pat: oops. I don;t think a half quart over will hurt but I will drain some off anyway.

I just changed mine today, Amsoil synthetic oil with oversized Amsoil oil filter (SDF34) and it took 6 quarts to fill it to the top bead on the dipstick. At only 5 quarts it was halfway inbetween the low and high bead after letting the engine run for a minute. added another half quart and it increased slightly after letting it run again. Added the rest of the sixth quart and it was to the top bead after running again.
