Hey guys - can I only get longfields via http://www.longfieldsuperaxles.com/ Because as we are opening up fmy front axle thinking Iblew a R&P iI blew both my burfs. I am wondering if I can getlongfields over here in Colorado in a day or so. I had thought I could only get them from Bobby Long's place.

OOh cool - Brian has them? (FROR) So the good news is my ring & pinion is not the problem. The bad news. I grenanded one of my burfs (and also broke the other). My runner is sitting over a friends house and we need to get longfields and then put her back together. And then FINALLY I will have my 4WD back....

Usually it is only Longfield, no one else stocks. The TG stuff is news.

Thanks Adrien and Isaac. Yeah We talked to Bobby Long today (he was very nice) He can ship them out Monday - hopefully I can have them by Thursday... My Rig is over at a friends house (The guy I bought it from actually) I was certain I had blown my R&P and so we were taking the front diff out to give him the tru trac - since he was going to buy it off me and he needed it. But while doing those we realized the problem wasn't the R&P at all but rather both my Burfs went. (And went so bad we wad to pry them out of the housing!) In fact I had mentioned many a time I could not believe I had not broken a burf yet... well I guess I have.

I have always been excited to get a set of longs in there. So the sooner i have em the sooner I can be up and driving. So instead of doing a R&P and upgrade to an ARB I'll be getting longfields instead

And I'll FINALLY be able to wheel with you guys!

Get out the die grinder and clearance the knuckle balls to make room for the 30 splines.

So why is the install so bad as I thought they were the same size essentially. I assume I could toss those puppies in the freezer to help a little - though I doubt that would really add enough shrinkage to help since they are so big. Plus freezing them - when they are heat treated items - not sure what that would do. I imagine Bobby Long has some advice on the issue, since he helped me get my old ones out (They were so jacked we had to pry them out).

Yup ordered them today (from Front Range Off Road - since they are in C-rado) and I'll have them tomorrow.

My install was easy, as easy as birfs go, and no grinding but it is mentioned as a possibility.

I'll be sure to take the grinder, wheels, and flapwheels when we go to put them in. I'm assuming you need to grind the flats a little more?

You will notice when you compare the stock birfs to the 30 splines where they are larger and thus where you may need to grind inside the knuckle ball. Its easy to do, each housing is different but I did it to be on the safe side.

I would be careful about the grinding.

It can vary housing to housing, as everything does.

It also is a great chance to get fillings into an area where you surely don't want them.

I have found, after installing a dozen or so of these that the splines on the inner axle that goes into the diff are SOMETIMES too true and take some light tapping. If you need a big hammer, I would worry.

How long had you been driving around with a dead birf? How pissed off is the bell?

I've installed (3) sets of Longs and have yet to have to grind anything.

Which one? Both of them failed - though one more spectacularly so than the other. Been broken since last sept. But I have only put maybe 300 miles on my truck since then...

I had to grind my short side and didn't grind the long side. The long side might have needed a little bit but I can turn the pinion by hand and both axles turn.
