YotaTech Summer Campout Greenwater, WA.
Calendar: Public

Please note that the date will change.
I had to input a date in here though for the thread to work with the plug-in that schedules the events.

I was yakking with Chris (member Tofer) and we decided it would be fun to get some members together from the area to camp out up at Greenwater

There is an abundance of free camping up there, and many spots are on the river up there.

Off of Forest Service Road 70 are lots of spots further up about eight miles where you turn onto 70 that are on the river.
Most of the lower spots have been ruined by the logging outfits who have "trenched" the roads leading in making you park along the outer road and carrying all of your gear in.

They did this to prevent the homeless from living up there I would imagine, and to prevent vehicles from leaking oil into the water.

I will be doing some scouting up there sometime in May to look for some good spots.
I know of a few on 70 that will hold around 10 rigs, maybe more

Also there are some good spots further up highway 410 on FS Road 73 on Huckleberry Creek.

I just got off the phone with the White River Ranger station, and there is still three feet or more of snow as soon as you turn off of the highway.

It would not do much good to explore the area right now until we get a meltdown up there.

I would head up early Friday (might take the day off) to setup camp.
I also pretty much would not be doing any 4wheeling, I would mainly be hanging out at the campsite getting some much needed R&R.

But there are tons of roads/trails you can explore up there, and there should be little snow up there come mid June or so.
Some at the higher elevations will exist though on the main FS roads.

I am getting back into camping after taking several years off from it.
Getting stocked up on the right gear to make my trips enjoyable.

For those who want to camp, you might think about some sort of crapper to bring along.
Beats digging a hole up there

Also a good idea to bring your own firewood, although there is a lot of clear cut areas that have leftover wood laying around

If this turns out to be a good event, maybe we could do another one later on in the summer.

I would consider it in a second if it were anywhere near me, or if gas prices suddenly dropped below $2.50/gallon.

Also, if I had an excuse to be in the Northwest for any other reason around that time.

Just got back getting some pics which I will upload later to this thread.
I do not consider the pics a trail run, only checking out the area.

Did not go up to far, there is a lot of snow after a few miles up 70.

I do have the NAV points for where I took some pics, and there is quite a bit of camping in there, but it is not near the river, that is across the road.

More exploring later when the snow goes away.

7013 FS Road, right side of 70 going up.
W LON 121 degrees 35' 10.9"
N LAT 47 degrees 7' 0.0"

That is from my Pioneer head unit, it lets me bookmark the location too so I can call it up and it will get me there again via voice commands.

Here are a few pictures from today.
The forest circus told me yesterday though that as soon as you turn off of 410 onto 70 you hit three feet of snow.
Bologna!

There is snow, but it is further up, and it does get quite deep.
Several full size truck with trailers were towing up snow mobiles higher up to play today.

Josh: i doubt you'd need the serious wheeler unless you want to bring it. i think this is more sit around the fire, BSing then hard core wheelin type of trip. its up to you. we;ll see, my wheeler should be done by then I hope.

Chris, that is it.
Hey, I did not know Google could do all of that.

One thing though, that other gated road about 1/2 mile back on the left side of the road by the river when going up is not listed on the map.

That is a popular site as it holds many motorhomes, but they have boulders blocking both entrances to it.

That is the first time I have gone up 7013, and it is only a few miles up off of the highway.
Will have to explore it for sure when the trail is clear of snow.

If I had any camping gear with me and my down comforter, I would have been tempted to spend the night up there yesternight.

might be able to make it...

I have got a couple of random weekends scheduled off this summer (work weekends for Intel) so maybe one would work out. Looks like only a 3.5 -4 hour drive up from PDX...

Might even have the Trekker put back together enough to make it up there.

What kind of wheeling is up there? Sounds like I could find stuff for either truck...

greenwater is (at least what i've found) is overgrown FS roads at worst. i mean we're talking the green sections of Archers are harder. Natches Trail goes through parts of Greenwater and i've only been on a very small part of it but again, nothing harder then Archers. (Archers is a trail at browns camp in oregon for those who are wonder what i'm talking about)

31.8 miles from my doorstep to the entrance of FS road 70.
For me, that is like driving to work and back home.

"Overgrown forest service road at worst", eh?

Sounds like it might just be my speed!

I want to go bad, but we'll see.

Have you come closer to deciding on a firm date?

Any permits/passed needed to be in that area?

If I remember right all rigs will have to have the forst service parking permit, I saw signs off the FS73 last fall...and am sure they cover both sides of the 410.
