we will more than likely stop a few times through out the day. mare than likely we will stop at a check point just to talk to BS and also to talk to some of the FOTHL members. never hurts to be buddies with people like that. I myself just joined and have yet to really meet any of them. I think Travis may be a member but not sure.

a lot of people shoot skeet up in the area, although one day that will get us kicked out because of the mess it leaves. I would honestly rather see a shotgun than a rifle this weekend as there will be a LOT of peple up there. I am bringing a rifle(22-250) but none of my big guns. I am not much of a shotgun shooter but in heavily populated places a shotgun is a lot safer when considering a missed shot can travel over a mile.

Guns are ok as long as it does not get out of hand with people pop'in off at every stop, or when we are in camp relaxin.

hmm... well, ive never brought a shotgun up to the mountains... guess im not normal...
when we do shoot, its usually at lunch or in the evening, and we recon the shooting area a few hundred yards first just to make damn sure that nothing but trees and soup cans are gonna get hit...
and i will bring the .38 but i always have that... its good for scaring away those scary cougars...

I have had to many dealings with mountain lions including helping fish and game "hunt" one down for re-location after attacking several horses. cougar is also very good meat and used to be considered a favorite of mountain men preferred over deer, elk, and bear. Pretty good, but i like my deer meat better.

cant say that ive ever hunted mountain quail...
hunted regular quail, chucker, pheasant, duck, goose, turkey, and dove...
all with my 870 express super mag.
but ive only hunted deer in the mountains... up by rubicon in kyburz... not too many shotguns up there...
if we should come across a cougar and it happens to attack someone and we happen to shoot it, i say we have it for dinner... i think id like to try it...

haha California mountain quail is like any other quail but there is a lot of them in this area in the early summer through fall. there are three different types of quail in California. The Valley Quail (often called the California Quail cause it is our state bird). Mountain Quail, and Gambel's Quail. you'd be amazed how many shotgun go up to the Rubicon. Just not during deer/gray squirrel season. I also have a Remington 870. mines the older Wingmaster though.
as for the shootin a lion.... umm no! i prefer to keep my guns. my uncle in WA get 5 cat tags a year (not sure why). In cal it is harder yet cause of the yuppie factor. If I have to put down a cat I live by the three S's shoot shovel and shut-up, cause even if you shoot in defense it can be a royal pain in the rear dealing with the state. besides the area up there is still to cold. lions follow the game. if we are lucky enough to see a deer I will be amazed.
