I am so tired of looking for a cars to buy.
My office is moving into a new office so I'm in the market for a second car. New office is too far to share 1 car with my wife. 90% of the time will be commuting to work, 40 miles a day. I'd like to get a Truck or 4Runner for hunting. But would love an All-Track or MR@ because I love sporty turbo cars.
I stated out looking at older Pickup with a 22RE engine. Then I moved to 4Runner, Camry, Carolla, Paseco, Tercel and Celica. I'm just so sick of looking.
My budget started out at 3k then I started looking at non running cars for $500. Then back up to 3k. I want to keep it cheep and pay off debt and then in 2 years I'd be debt free and could buy anything I wanted. Then I go back to 'I don't want to spend 2 years commuting in a POS'.
So I want 4x4 or AWD that is sporty, cheap, good MPG and can haul an elk or dear.
I like working on engins but not body work. I wouldn't mind taking a non running car and rebuild it.
Alas I'm sick of looking. I need your help. What car/truck should I buy?

you could try to find a toyota with a 22rte turbo engine. you could also find one with a regular 22re and slap a turbo on it. (im assuming you know a bit about turbos) the re engine will run a turbo at low boost with no mods. and with a few upgrades can be run upwards of 20 psi.

EDIT.. look for a second gen 4runner with a low miles 3vze with a blown HG. youll have a good running truck for less then 3k. but you can throw sporty out the window.

Thanks for the advice. I did check out a 22RE with a Turbo and was not that impressed. I did come across a 95 Celica 5 speed, all white with a sun roof. It's in the Bay Area near my brothers place 800 miles away. I could put a 3SGTE add Eagle Rods, Wiseco Pistons, and a T3/T4 turbo at 20 psi. Can't fit an elk in there.
I've seen a lot of Pickup's and 4Runners with the 3 slow engine and want to stay clear of them.
