Cory wants a Supra, where is one at?
Just like the title says, I want a supra now......
Looking for a 89 to 92 Targa 5spd Turbo. Willing to look at any 87 and newer supra though... Let me know if you guys find any!

I didn't realize those early turbos were so weak.... but there are ways to change that This whole "daily driver" thing isn't going to last long.
If you're going to keep it stock, maybe the NA car would be better for putzing around? The turbo doesn't add much more power, and turbo lag sucks when you're just cruising.

Bored at lunch, I looked up the fuel economy for a NA vs. a Turbo, they're basically the same. 17/23 Turbo, 18/23 NA. So that extra horsepower really doesn't cost any gas.
According to Edmunds the "True Market Value" of a 93 Z28 is $1800. Maybe I need one of those as a race car instead of a Miata. But more than likely Edmunds is smoking loads of crack and has no clue what they're talking about.

Toyota had head gasket problems on the L6's too? Hahaha.... I bet some head gasket engineer got fired.
I like the styling of the 300's way more than the 89-92 Supras. The 300's are more of a performance car than that generation of Supras. Closer to the 93+ Supra. I'm always wary of Nissan quality though. Despite was Consumer Reports seems to say, Nissan IS NOT in Toyota's league in that regard. And V6's just aren't as sweet as L6's.

I agree with the I6 to V6 comparison, hands down an I6 will always win. I also agree with the general nissan to toyota comparison of quality. However, I just want to compare that generation of Z to that gen of a supra. I think when you look at it from that aspect it may differ. It appears turbos in both are good for about 100 to 150K give or take. Supras will have a bad headgasket at some point, every 7M does, N/A or turbo. Nissan appears to have valve problems with the early models, but if you steer clear of that it looks pretty sound. Also nissan does have a good track record in my opinion for v6's, look at the VQ35. Although its inception was after the 300Z, I believe it came from the VG30E (the 3.0 V6 in a 90+ 300Z).
The final thing is I think exterior styling is nice for both, but the 300Z wins the interior battle hands down. Plus the 300Z's are more common to find leather in, and not red in color.... Also 300Zs are in general easier to find. And I also agree that they are more on par with the 93+ supras, but for a fraction of the cost (about half).

It also appears the N/A 300Z is almost on par with the HP of the turbo supra (222 vs. 245). If you go TT on the 300, it bumps it 300+. Also appears all TT 300Z's are 4Wheel steering.... Finally, all 300Z's were 18/24 for mileage, so just a hair better than the supras.

Yeah, the nissan V6 is the same basic engine they still make today. My mom had one in her 89 Maxima, but I never got to drive it :cry: . Nissans seems to have always made a better V6 than Toyota... but really, besides the reliability of the 22RE, I'm never been that impressed with Toyota engines. I'd always take a Nissan over a Toyota for the first 30k miles.... after that the Nissans just seem to wear faster. You buy a Toyota and get an engine much like you buy a Cummins and get a truck.

anyhting but drag and the miata hands down is the best bang for the buck. I had one, loved it, it was cheap, fun, and reliable. fast too, well through the turns. didnt need to brake as much.
then it was run over by a big van. that ended my love for cars that are small.

Road racing and some autocrossing. I didn't realize the 93 Z28s were that cheap (well, I haven't verified they're than cheap yet!). I have about $2k to buy the base vehicle to play with, and older Miata's in solid mechanical condition are just starting to get down to that level. The F-bodies are amazing on the track, much more car than the Miata (power and weight), and they are usually very competitive in their class. The Miata has dedicated classes to run in, which is cool too.
Though the Z is a faster car, and probably more of a handful to get around the track, I think I'd drive one better than a Miata. Good power can make up for small cornering mistakes. With the Miata running perfect corners is a must to keep the speed up.
Whatever I start doing I'll drag Cory and his DD along for the ride. Like I said... I can't see this DD thing lasting very long before it becomes a toy

I never ran my miata in a miata class. I ran e-mod at autox and did some de track events. I worked around spec miata for a while but it was not a class for me...
I never have seen a supra at an autox or track day i was at... not even a mk4. lots of rx7's, camaros mustangs and vettes.

I've seen a couple of the 90+ 300's with LS1's in them, both were real clean looking conversions and the engine fit perfect. My friend with the 93 RX7 with 500+ horse 6.1L LSX got his girlfriend pregnant and got hitched... he may be willing to let the car go, but I'm guessing it'd be more than you're looking to spend.
Yeah, not a lot of Supras at the track... probably due to their rarity more than anything else. Supras race in my class for autocrossing (95 Impala SS), but I've only seen the Mk3's at the track. They aren't well suited to autoxing though.... my Impala spanks them!
