FJ Cruiser SAS = Done!

OK, so some of you have seen the pics floating around on the FJCruiserForums site. Corey asked me to post up a few current pictures. We had the truck at Offroad Expo in Pomona, CA last weekend and it got a lot of attention. We will be taking it wheeling at the end of the month. I'll add some offroad shots to this thread after the trip.

Here are some from the Expo.

Pretty sick but i have one bone to pick.. Why are those shock reservoirs on top of the engine? Aren't those made to help keep the shocks cooler and allow for greater travel? Wouldnt they just get really hot sitting on top of the motor like that and reduce suspension travel?

Naw, it's built with almost all Toyota parts (FJ-80 HP elocked third, Mini truck outers, IFS steering box, etc).... LOL!

Can you imagine a conversation with the service advisor... Hey I bought this under the Pre-Owned Certified program from the dealership across town and someone told me that the suspension is all jacked up. Can you help me figure what's wrong?

Jason and Wyatt have run their coilovers on top of their engines in the same configuration for many years and experienced no ill effect from the heat. Bottom line, I talked to a number of folks that didn't seem to think it would be problematic for for me to have the reservoirs there based on the way I will use it (slow crawling). If I do notice issues with the shocks I will simply move them down on the shock towers.

Think about how hot shocks get. The flowing air around your motor is definitely cooler than the internal temperature of the shocks. If they were touching the motor, it may be a different story.
Also, the reservoirs have nothing to due with travel numbers. You could take 2 identical shocks, one with a reservoir and one without, and they will achieve the same travel numbers. The reservoir acts only as additional oil capacity, reservoir shocks stay cooler longer.

The FJ is insane by the way

My friend had a custom long travel kit put on his tacoma by a local fab shop and they mounted the reservoirs on top of the engine. When he asked them why they did that since the engine compartment gets hot they didnt have an answer for him. I guess its just a convenient spot to put them and it looks good.
