clutch questions

I was just looking at ordering a stock replacement clutch for a 93 t100 with the 3.0. There is a diffrent part number for the clutch in a 93 mini truck with the 3.0 and a 93 t100 with the 3.0. They also want an extra $100 for the t100 clutch kit. I was sure that the 3.0 5spd drivetrain is exactly the same between models.

Has anyone heard or know that the t100 clutch disk is infact diffrent than the mini or 4runner 3.0 clutch disk of the same year?

yes the T100 is different than the trucks and 4 runners. I just went through the same thing a couple of months ago. The T100 has a slightly larger clutch and clutch gripping surface on the flywheel. I bought a heavy duty cluth from downey off road and the guy told me it would fit the T100. I also bougfht a flywheel from autozone because it was only a couple bucks more than machining. The new clutch fit the new flywheel but not my origional one. My old clutch wouldn't fit on the new flywheel but I figured hey what the heck, it bolts to my crank and I lucked out and just happened to get two matching parts that don't match the origional but fit the crank right? WRONG. after several hours of head banging I ended up having to get one from the dealer I worked for and returned the heavy clutch and flywheel. When I put everything back together, the clutch wouldn't dis-engage. So, to save you from having the same problen I had, Don't buy a cheap autozone flywheel and buy a clutch kit that is specifically for the T100. Long story short; yeah it's more expensive but they don't interchange.

Thanks for the reply that is exactly what i am looking for.

it looks like the clutch disk for the t100 is 9 7/8" and the other 3.0s are 9 1/4".

So when you couldnt get the clutch to disengage were you running the downey "non t100" clutch with the t100 flywheel?

Did you try to do the "non t100"" 3.0 flywheel with the "non t100" 3.0 clutch set and see if that worked? It would make since that mixing the 2 wouldnt work as the friction surfaces would be diffrent sizes. But with a matching flywheel and clutch set it should work as I believe all the hydraulics are the same as well.

You would lose some clamping power but at a substantial cost savings.

Yeah I was running the autozone replacement and the downey clutch. I figured the same thing the two wrongs should work but apparently the two wrongs are shorter or something. My hydraulics were working fine but weren't pushing in the clutch far enough to disengage it.

Ouch.

so as soon as you went back to the t100 clutch and flywheel everything worked fine? I wonder if the downey pressure plate was defective and was too hard for stock hydraulics to depress/disengage?

the clutch part numbers are the same for 2wd 3.0 t100s and 4wd mini and 4runners with 3.0s.

the slave cylinders are the same between the 93 t100 and the 93 mini with 3.0

I will see if i can dig up the diffrences between the flywheels.

If my truck was a 2wheel drive it probably weould have worked. Like you said the part numbers are the same. However, the 4wd T100 part number is completely different and only applicable for that particular model. The factory part number that is. Oh and yeah once I put the stock one in everything was good. I should have taken pics so I could post them. oh well.
