new tach just installed, reading 50%!!!

I just finished installing my tachometer into my '85 22r pickup. Works great, except that the tach. only reads 50% I figured it out when i gassed it real hard and it only went to 2500, and when I start it idles at 400...
Do you think the tach is broken? Did I wire it wrong? I plugged the green wire into the stock port coming off the coil for tach installs(the one in the bottom of the picture)

you gotta cut one of the wires on the back of the tach, it will tell you in the instructions

EDIT: I think its the green one, but it could be the brown one lol

Is there a write up for installing a tach on the 22r 22re engines? I need one for my 4rnr. Among otherthings, but thats the big one.

Popak2, it's really easy. you just have to hook the green (signal wire) to the negative side of the terminal. now for the longest time i heard this and i had no idea what that meant. well here ya go

see that picture above? see where the main coil plug (the one that goes to your distributor) goes out. look right above and below it. that is the negative and positive side of the coil. they are simply two studs coming out of the coil with a small nut on each. the wrench size for those nuts is 8mm. simply attach (preferably with a round crimper) that green signal wire from the tachometer to the negative one of those two posts. some times you will see negative and positive. just try one. if nothing happens when you run the vehicle, try the other one. in that picture, if i remember correctly, it would be the bottom one. if you're looking at the front, it would be the one on the left, normally. dont forget to set your tachometer to a 4cyl engine
