Alternator getting hot

I just replaced my alternater becausde the old one i guess shorted out! I got a new one and it seems to be running fine but is getting extremly hot and smokes alittle! anyone have a cle whats going on? Iv heard that the wiring is to small and should be replaced with bigger gauge wire.

Sounds like you might have bought a bad alternator out of the box.

It should not be smoking !!!As for the wiring it can get old and tired .

When one upgrades you do tend to go to a larger size.
