89 Pickup Electrical Charge System Problems
OK, so the other night I turned on my headlights and I could smell a burning smell, I get home and pop the bonnet, and the lug had arced off the back of my alternator..
So I cut back the wiring until it was shiny copper and put on a heavy duty battery lug..
As I was connecting the lug to the back of the alternator a heap of sparks came off and something popped in the fuse box area..
All the fuses are fine but now the truck won't start the only thing I get on the dash is the battery light...
My headlights work, the horn works, the hazard lights and interior light work but I cannot get the A/C, radio and starter to crank....
I have traced the wiring from the alternator all the way back to the battery side looking for a split or a worn through section and have found nothing..
Really need to get this truck going for work tomorow, any help is appreciated.

Yeah it's in a different section, now that I have the alternator plug fixed I thought I'd ask for some electrical help with a more precise title..
Upon opening the little lid on the 60A fusible link I noticed it has burned through in the section that I couldn't see when viewing from above...

If you remove the gray cover on your alternator, you will likely find that the voltage regulator has martyred itself. I just picked up a rebuilt alt. for a similar issue except the plug was fused to the VR. Not pretty.

I just got mine running again. I replaced the heavy wire to the from the + post on the battery to the circuit breaker. You may want to check resistance on the main line from the alt. to the CB. The lug carries the output of the alternator to the CB then to the battery +.
